A Fortunate Life is an autobiographical novel centred around the life of A. B. Facey (184-18), the classic Aussie battler. Widely acclaimed, it has been described as a microcosm of the earlier life of Australia in its personalised accounts of events close to the heart of Australian cultural identity such as Gallipoli, the Great Depression, and early rural settlement.

A Fortunate Life was first published by the Fremantle Arts Centre Press in 181, and has been reprinted in several other editions since then, as well as being adapted for the stage.

Faceys manuscript provides a unique insight into the writing of a work that has become an Australian icon. The author had no formal education and this is reflected in the simplicity and honesty of Faceys handwritten notebooks. Little annotation occurs throughout the work, other than the authors emendations, giving the manuscript a vivid coherence A Fortunate Life is an autobiographical novel centred around the life of A. Some of the students were affected by The Wave. The students most affected by The Wave were Laurie, David, and Robert. All of those students were originally in The Wave, but Laurie and David wanted out later in the book.

Laurie was the first student to realize The Wave was dangerous after her mom said that to her. At first, Laurie liked the Wave. She even said to her mom, "No you're all wrong about the Wave. The Wave isn't dangerous at all." Then she started to see how far The Wave had gotten in the wrong direction. She then quit the Wave and even published an article about how bad The Wave was. Some Wave members even turned against her and wrote the word "enemy" on her locker. She's learned her lesson.

David was more into The Wave than Laurie was, but eventually quit. David found out The Wave was doing far more damage than he dreamed it was doing. Laurie was David's girlfriend for over a year, and The Wave seemed to be splitting them up until David threw Laurie to the ground. "Anything that could have influenced me to do that," David said, "is definitely not right." I think David also learned an important lesson.Cheap Custom Essays on The Wave

Robert was a little different than Laurie and David. He was with The Wave the whole time and loved it. It didn't seem to bother him that other kids were fighting because of The Wave. He was the class loser at first, but when he was in The Wave, he was equal to all the other kids. "I feel like I'm needed and am a part of something… something special," Robert said in class. He really got let down when The Wave ended. I think he learned his lesson even though he really wanted to keep The Wave going.

In conclusion, I think it was a very important lesson for everyone even though a lot of people were let down when The Wave ended. They now know how the Nazis formed and that it could happen again. Laurie, David, and Robert all learned a lot in that past couple weeks.

Aristotle believed that virtue grew from virtuous actions. In order to achieve happiness, an individual needed to be aware of his or her own actions and learn how to make the right choices. According to Aristotle, three types of actions exist involuntary actions, nonvoluntary actions, and voluntary actions.

Involuntary actions are performed due to ignorance, or because one is forced to do so. For example, slavery would be considered an involuntary action, because slaves were forced into their actions, and had no choice. However, involuntary actions may change into voluntary ones. Many children who do not enjoy going to school are coerced into doing so by their parents. However, once they reach an older age, continuing their education becomes a choice of theirs, a voluntary action.

Nonvoluntary actions are those that are performed in ignorance, when an individual is not aware of what is right or wrong. Therefore, anyone who commits such an act, is not held responsible for their actions, although they may receive blame or praise. For example, a person who is intoxicated while driving happens to get into an accident and kills an innocent bystander. The person's judgment was impaired, and they were not aware of their actions, however, society blames them for what they did. However, if the same person who was intoxicated had performed a courageous act without knowing so, they would have been praised by others.

Voluntary actions are those that are performed with compulsion or no coercion. A person who is emotionally outraged and performs an act out of anger still acts on his own feelings, and therefore the act is still considered voluntary. A person who gives to the poor, or chooses to rob a bank does so out of his or her own choice. These actions require individual choice, and once one begins to make rational decisions, he comes closer to attaining virtue.

Marcus has the point of view of limited omniscience. He deals with that situation in an unusual way.

The dialogue between Marcus and his mother reveals a very close relationship between the two of them.

Most strikingly, Marcus seems to be more grown-up and mature than his mum. So one gets the impression that he is a precocious child.Cheap Custom Essays on About a Boy

Based on Nick Hornbys popular British novel, About A Boy is a comedy about a young man from London called Will Lightman (Hugh Grant). One day Will realizes that all his friends are all involved with the responsibilities of married life and dont have time for him. So he passes himself as a single father, and attempts to deduce a string of single mums, confident in his ability to leave them behind when they start to ask for a commitment. Everything goes fine until Will he meets 1-year old boy called Marcus.

The first thing I have to say is, its a shame that this movie was slated to be released the same weekend as Star Wars Episode Attack of the Clones. Many people will miss out on this wonderfully scripted and acted film!

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie from beginning to end. Hugh Grant was superb as a single man who couldnt be bogged down with relationships, etc. As his movie character, Will, states I am an Island! Until he meets a young boy, Marcus, through his attempt to date single moms. Marcus quickly becomes a fixture in Wills life -whether he likes it or not. But one thing is for sure - the audience will love it! This movie is filled with humor as well as heart-felt scenes. An added bonus is the fact that its one British movie that you can understand what EVERYONE is saying!

Do yourself a favor and see this movie. It is SO much more than a cutesy movie - and definitely not just a chick flick!

Plato was born, the son of Ariston and Perictione, in Athens, or perhaps in Aegina, in about 48 BC, the year after the death of the great statesman Pericles.

Plato believed that there exists an immaterial Universe of `forms, perfect aspects of everyday things such as a table, bird, and ideas/emotions, joy, action, etc. The objects and ideas in our material world are `shadows of the forms (see Platos Allegory of the Cave).

This solves the problem of how objects in the material world are all distinct (no two tables are exactly the same) yet they all have `tableness in common. There are different objects reflecting the `tableness from the Universe of Forms

... , and that the organ by which he learns is like an eye which cannot be turned away from darkness to light, unless the whole body is turned away; in the same way as the mind as a whole must be turned away from the world of change until its eye can bear to look straight at reality, and the brightest of all realitys which is what we call the good. In other words, the faculty of sight, he asserts, is present in all, but it can be misused if it is not directed towards the acquisition of enlightenment.

whilst education cannot impart understanding of virtue and truth by imposing such values from outside, it can act as a pointer and a guide to true knowledge. At this point, Socrates sets out the responsibilities of those who form the foundation of the State. They are the enlightened ones, but having achieved the knowledge of truth, they must then return to the world of ordinary humanity and strive to lead the uneducated into the light which they themselves have already experienced. In the same way that the one escaped cave-dweller returned underground to share his discovery, those who establish the State may not remain on ...

Purpose I intend to show the validity of Platos arguments about his theory of Forms. Aristotle, along with others, cross-examines Platos proposals. Yet, I happen to see the potential of his point of view and would like to take a deeper look

During the late nineteen hundreds most companies hired their employees at a young age. In return employees would remain with the company throughout their entire career, and often retire at the age of sixty five. This strategy aided in job security, employee loyalty, and long-term benefits. This was better known as the ?womb to tomb? employee. In the twentieth century most employees started out working for a company in the mail room or as a courier. Companies believed employees needed full knowledge of departments to advance within the company. Once an employee gained knowledge through experience, they would eventually advance to supervisory or management positions.

Later in the twenty first century, technology changed the values of companies and employees. Economic distress has also aided in the loss of benefits, job security, and work ethics. While twentieth century workers earned their positions through loyalty and dedication to hard work, twenty first century workers where place in more immediately. Twenty first century workers where placed in higher positions from skills they have accumulated through education and previous employment. ?Managers are often hired outside the company for their vision, ability to achieve results, or their ability to motivate people? (Carlson, 00, p.4).

Through the transitions of these centuries the employee and the job industry changes constantly. Individuals from the twentieth century earned advancement by remaining loyal to the company. Later in the twenty first century employees are not as loyal, because they are always looking for faster advancement, and looking for bigger salaries. These later employees tent to have more knowledge of the constant changing industry. Through both centuries there are business ethics that worker can benefit and learn from.

Order your Cantinflas: A book review paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! One should question just why it was that Mario Moreno's film persona, Cantinflas, was the most popular film star in Mexican history. How was it that all Mexicans recognized Moreno? On what level did he relate to them all? The answer lies in his obvious charisma and the dedication he displayed. Due to his charm Moreno was able to get Mexicans to embrace their rich mestizo heritage and begin to deal with the tremendous growing pains experienced by the maturing nation.

His immense popularity allowed him to present nonsensical satires of corrupt politicians and elitists that ruled Mexico. By standing up for victims of urban poverty he offered himself up as a "weapon of the poor," a role he proudly held for more than thirty years. I liked this book for several reasons but mostly because it combined a comprehensive examination of Mexican culture with a touching biography of this unselfish performer.

Pilcher allows his reader to see how a national identity was transformed in the post-revolutionary period, not only amongst Mexicans but abroad as well. He does a brilliant job of explaining how the growing pains were eased by comedic underdog Cantinflas. Throughout the book the reader is taken step by step in the political career of Moreno. How he was able to manipulate his position in the Screen Actor's Guild and use it, as a platform to discuss political issues. I found it incredible that because of his popularity the government was forced into sustaining his countless attacks on their lack of effort concerning the poverty issue.

In assessing this book's value to the class I found it to be a wonderful tool. It was a thoughtful biography but also a well-rounded study of Mexican cinema and culture. Overall, Sherman and Meyer have the advantage, as their book is more of a narrative approach to the period in question. However, Pilcher presents a different yet important piece of the puzzle. One I think any student of Mexican history would benefit from reading.

We have all dealt with that feeling of fear and loneliness. Well that was what I definitely felt the first day of my cultural experience. I was picked to be given a chance to take part in the 001 session of TBW. Which that stands for Teen Westward Bond. This is kind of like a summer camp except you travel all around the United States in just weeks. You never stay in one place longer then a day and a half.

So the first day of the trip I remember saying my goodbyes to my family and saying how I would see them in three weeks. Then after they left I stopped and looked around at all other people that were going to be joining me on this trip. I remember the feeling that I felt when I sat down on the bus with my group for the first time. I didn't know any of them. But that soon changed. During this trip I made so many friends and long lasting friendships that I will never forget. During this trip I really thought I was going to miss my family and be homesick the whole time but that wasn't the case at all. Not only during this trip did I find out that I could handle being on my own. But I also learned a lot of skills need to take of ones self. First the first time on this trip I learned how to clean up after my self and be responsible.

Through this experience I also learned that there is more to life then just shopping all the time and having all the new "fashions". I learned that getting to learn about other places around you and getting to know all different kind of people is way more important, then any clothes. I mean during this trip I got to go to so many cool places that most people only hear about. We visited the grand canyon, shopped in San Francisco, Looked at the stars in New Mexico, and visited the largest bat cave in Utah.

So this experience was definitely once in a life time thing. I am happy that I took advantage of such a "eyes opening experience". I mean I really don't think there are any words that I could say to describe how much fun that I had on this trip. But I do know one thing ,that is if I am ever given another opportunity to do anything like TBW, I will be the first one there

populations including their size, growth, density, distribution, and rates of birth,

marriages, and deaths. The three best demographics of indicators of countries

level are life expectancy, literacy, and infant mortality.

Cheap University Papers on geography

Life expectancy is the most important demographic indicator. This shows

how long people are averaged out to live. Life expectancy also shows if the

people are healthy. The reasoning to this is that people live longer if they are

healthy. When people live longer this shows that a country takes good care of

the people. They have many doctors, clinics, and hospitals. Also the population is

larger. This viewpoint says that if people live longer and they have children who

live long, the population grows and stays sort of at a steady point. Life

expectancy is important because of these reasons.

Next is literacy, another very important indicator of demographics. Literacy is

the ability to read and write. This is very important because it shows how well

educated the people are in that country. In some countries they don't offer

school up to a certain age, or for women. This just gives them very little

opportunities to succeed in life. People who are educated and study in college

make a good salary per year. This helps the economy and the country to be

worth more money. This is called a high standard of living. The united states is

known to be a high standard living country. Literacy is important because it helps

our country and makes it a better place to live in.

Last but certainly not least is infant mortality. This means infant death, how

long the infant lives. In some countries infants don't even live up to the toddler

years. Abortion is another way of infant mortality, which the United States has

plenty of unfortunately. This has a major impact on health and decisions, if you

have a healthy house hold and habitat your infant has a very good chance of

living. Many teens have abortions, which are not good at all and should be

thought out more because it is not the child's mistake. Taking good care of

infants is important. And again this has a lot to do with population. The more

infants die your population will decrease. This are some factors of infant

mortality.

In concluding there are many indicators of demographics and these are just a

few. Three of many very important indicators are life expectancy, literacy, and

infant mortality.

Disparity is the condition or fact of being unequal, as in age, rank, or degree. In looking at the world's disparity, the rich is getting richer and the poor is getting poorer. This gap in between the rich and the poor is getting bigger and bigger each and every day.

Economic wealth can be measured for a country by its Gross National Product. This is only an approximate measurement of the total market value of all the goods and services produced by a nation during a specified period. The GNP is used differently for all countries, but it provides a general comparison between countries.

Another factor of disparity is education. In our society today without an education you can't go anywhere in your life. Just alone being able to read puts you ahead of the millions of people in the Third World countries who cannot read or write. Being literate is a huge impact on your ability to communicate with the world. Having an education allows you to reach your highest goals and have greater control of your life.

Write my Essay on disparity for me

Living conditions are very important to each and every human being in our world. In general, when people have good living conditions they will tend to live longer fuller lives, and in result be happier overall. Having clean water to drink, fresh food to eat, a bed to sleep in and a loving family will decrease the morality rates, increase the life expectancies and people's self esteem will overall increase.

Disparity seen in the eyes of Willy Brandt exists because of inequality of economic strength, the North vs. the South. The South shares common history of colonialism and has only gained political independence since the end of WW. The North is at the "top" only because the South is dependant on the North for loans, goods, and aid. And since the North is at the 'top' they get to determine all the conditions of loans, repayment terms and investment, which cancels out the South for their position of bargaining, (all or none). Since the North is now in the lead, it acts as a prime target for immigrants. As soon as they feel their living conditions aren't to standard, they will seek a new home, one which sounds like heaven to them, the North.

Cheap University Papers on "Crack and the Box"

"Crack and the Box" is a very interesting story written by Pete Hamill that compares the addiction of crack to the addiction of watching television. I firmly disagree on Hamill's thought process about the comparisons of these two totally different things. Where he came up with this strange comparison is definitely something that would be interesting to try to understand. His main point is to make readers believe that watching television is practically the same as doing crack cocaine. His statement that states "television usually absorbs its viewers the way drugs absorb their users," I believe, is merely his opinion. I firmly disagree on this statement, because television is a form of entertainment and the use of drugs is definitely unknown as being entertaining. Hamill states many reasons why these things are similar, but he never seems to have a back up for his thoughts. He compares how the television can take someone out of the "real world," just as cocaine takes someone's mind frame into another world. This comparison is a bit ridiculous. First of all, television never seems to take me through a journey into another world. I merely just watch the screen and still reside in my normal state of mind. I think Hamill includes random things like this in his works to help support his opinionated mind. He tries to inform or persuade his readers the wrong way. Most people do not completely believe something that does not have references or back ups to solutions. Hamill should have taken his thoughts into perspective and given his readers a way in which they could completely believe his comparisons. I think Hamill was completely out of his mind when he decided to write on how television is similar to crack. It amazes me that he included his perspective on the subject, but never really showed his readers how he backed his thoughts up. Some may believe every bit of what he says, but personally I think Hamill went a little overboard. I firmly disagree with his synopsis on how these two dramatically different subjects could actually compare to one another.

I was always interested in numbers when I was younger and this led me to study a degree in Accounting. I usually achieved the highest marks for most of my accounting assignments.

After I graduated from the university, I chose to join the Saudi Bank because I thought most jobs in banking would be related to my study in accounting, but I soon found out that most of my work was related to sales and marketing.

I spent most of my time looking to establish new businesses through having new customers and increasing my client portfolio. My clients are upscale customers who maintain a portfolio of over $50,000.00 on their current, saving or investment accounts. Establishing a relation for these types of accounts needs us to accelerate our efforts in sales and marketing to get close to these customers. Usually, they demand private services and other products to meet their needs and we provide these according to each requirement.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Why a graduate degree

As a result, my experience in sales and marketing was gained while I was working in the bank, while my knowledge of accounting was gained from my studying at the university. I became interested in sales and marketing because the most successful businesses relied on these two important factors and, in my view, if I wanted to be successful in business I must be well prepared educationally.

Accounting was limited, whereas sales and marketing provided me with more opportunities and was, therefore, better for my career.

I recently got an excellent offer from Tahlia Mall, which is a company that combines management, marketing and sales. I am the manager for the mall and in charge of keeping solid relationships with our existing traders, who rent our property, providing them with excellent services like security and regular maintenance and to find new marketing ideas to keep the mall booming.

Since I have experience of accounting and qualifications in this area, I think it is important that I continue to build on my experience of sales and marketing. However, I need to learn more about this large subject (sales and marketing), especially if I am going to succeed in my new job.

For this reason, I have decided to study a graduate degree, which will help me develop into the managerial position that has been given to me.

An epic can be defined as a long narrative story recounting a quest of the quintessential hero, in his fight against evil. In the film, The Lord of the Rings Two Towers and in the poem, Beowulf these epic thematic concepts are evident. Firstly, both epics take place in a vast scope of land. Beowulf travels from Geatland, to the land of the Danes, then back to Geatland. Two Towers takes place in numerous places of Middle Earth, from the Fangorn Forest, to Isonguad, to the plains of Rohan, and then to Helms Deep. Secondly, both tales include intense battle sequences in which many good people must die. The description of Grendal's attacks on the thanes is extremely gory and gruesome. He killed many innocent lives, including Hrothgar's best friend. The bloody battle at Helms Deep also exemplifies this. The men, elves, and ents defeat the orc army, but only with the sacrifice of many virtuous people, including the elf captain. Theotin's son also dies while helping defend his kingdom against evil. Next, the evidence of a quintessential hero is prominent in both stories. Beowulf and Frodo both sacrifice their lives for mankind. They both risk their lives by performing an almost impossible task. For Beowulf it is his quest to defeat the raging Grendal, and for Frodo it is to deliver the sacred ring, without it falling into the wrong hands. Both are courageous and succeed against all odds. Furthermore, the element of good always triumphing over evil is quintessential. Beowulf (the ultimate good) fights and defeats Grendal, and his mother (the ultimate evil.) In the battle of Helms Deeps, the men of Rohan, along with the help of elves and ents are triumphant over Sauroman's army of orc. Epic thematic parallels are prominent in both the film, The Lord of the Ring Two Towers, and the poem of Beowulf. The quest to save mankind culminates in the triumph of good over evil.

Listen Up! Listening and How To Practice It

By Robert Bacal, M.A.

Possessing effective listening skills can help, whether in business or everyday activities, to present you as a strong, sincere, outgoing person. Effective listening can only come about with very disciplined training of the mind. It is hard to sit and listen for long periods of time to one-person control the conversation, and at the same time focus on keeping your mind from wondering. There are two ways to improve your listening ability focus your attention and communicate your understanding.

Focusing your attention on someone while they are speaking is the hardest to accomplish. This can only be done with extensive practice. The practice should be done in the privacy of your own home, do not ever be so rude as to practice on a friend or even a stranger without them knowing. This skill should be enhanced at home with a television or radio. The objective is to keep loose thoughts from wondering into your mind and taking over. Once you feel that you can go a few minutes with very little interruptions you may begin trying it while others are speaking to you. You should notice that people would respond to you positively.

Communicating your understanding can be done a couple of different ways empathetic listening and reflective listening. These skills can also be practiced but they may be practiced on friends and family and even business partners. Empathetic listening is done by listening to the conversation and responding with sympathy or happiness for the situation. Reflective listening is repeating briefly what has just been spoken to you by another person. This can help the speaker to know that you have just heard and understood what they were saying, it will also let them know if they were able to effectively get their point across.

I chose this article because I have been complemented in the past on my ability to listen. When someone, even a child, is speaking I try my best to give him or her all of my attention. Sometimes it is very hard to do, but this article has shown me that I am a reflective listener and I was able to receive pointers n how to improve on what skills I already possess.

The personality test our English class took stated that I was an ESFJ. ESFJ's are the most sociable of all types and love to be around people. The portrait of the ESFJ said that they promote harmony and harmonious relationships; that statement represents me. I never fight with friends and family and I seem to get along with everyone I encounter. I have also been able to keep a relationship with my girlfriend for a year and eight months. It also states that ESFJ's enjoy teaching, coaching and people to people jobs. Teaching and coaching are two of the things that someday I may enjoy doing for a living. Right now I am currently employed at two jobs that deal with people on an every day basis. Working with people is something that I love to do.

Even though the personality test was mostly correct, there were a few things that I disagreed with. For instances, it says that ESFJ's are conscious of their appearances and take the opinions of others regarding social standards very seriously. I disagree with this statement because I am not ashamed to act "crazy" and outgoing in front of my piers. For example, my friends and I tend to play fight and run around obnoxiously. Others may find this annoying but to my friends and I it is fun. Another statement I disagree with is that "If an ESFJ becomes melancholy they can become depressed or suicidal if they take blame for what might have gone wrong." When I take the blame for something, I am able to take responsibility for my actions. I have never once thought about suicide, and I have never been in a state of depression. When I get into arguments with my girlfriend, and we disagree on something, I know when I'm at fault and I know when she is. When I know I am at fault, I apologize and work things out. I never get depressed or suicidal.

I am not sure what I would like to do for a living when I get older. I do know one thing though I do not want to sit in a cubical from nine to five. In the future I see myself either teaching or being a police officer. Teaching interests me because I like talking in front of groups of people and I like kids. I think I would like to teach at the high school level because the kids are a lot more mature. Becoming a police office also seems like it would fit my personality. It is defiantly a person to person job and that is what I am looking for in a future job.

The short story, "The Lottery" is a real shocker. The harsh and cruel ending, grabs attention and adds to the unique way of hiding its true intentions. It is a story/movie full of irony and symbolism. The author, Shirley Jackson is trying to satirize our own society, in which men are selected for the army by lottery.

The setting of the event in "The Lottery" is a very effective trick. It tricks the reader from the real truth and instead positions his or her mind to a happy surrounding. "The morning of June 7th was clear and sunny, with the warmth of a fine summer day." Who would have thought that the clean innocence of a fine summer day would be shattered by a bloody murder in a matter of a couple hours? Similarly, consider the draft awhile back, many young people were called into war to defend our country. It may have not have been what he or she wanted, but in reality there was nothing they could have done.

The villiagers' names in the story show a lot of symbolism and irony. (The children first show the innocence of their young approach to the actual reality. It seems that the lottery is just plain fun to them.) The name Hutchinson, or "Hutch" means "a pen or a coop for an animal." Tessie for example was "caged" in, as she was the lucky lottery winner to be stoned. To me the most important name, is "Adams." The Adams' are practically the first in everything considering their last names starts with an A. Ironically, they are also the first in line in stoning the "lucky" lottery winner. Also, examining the lottery equipment shows symbolism. The black box, for example, represents the death and their tradition. It symbolizes the belief of the villagers, as it's their only hope. The pieces of paper inside the box symbolize the villagers' lives. Much like, "The draft." Some years ago, the draft was basically a list of names in alphabetical order, first names first. Referring back to "Adams" as they were the first to pick in, "The Lottery." After I had read this story several times, I actually understood and realized how it was so similar to how men were selected for the army by Lottery. In my words, "It's the name of the game."

King Lear is a canonical text, which has been preserved over centuries, but as culture and society have evolved, readings and interpretations of the play have broadened and changed. This play deals with universal and basic and fundamental social and human issues. As King Lear moves from 17th C Elizabethan times to the 1st C, different representations of the themes are demanded. In order to appeal to the contemporary audience these representations must closely parallel the cultural and social values of the era in which the play is produced. For a modern 1st C audience the issues of politics, feminism and chaos would be issues of great importance and relevance in this democratic but unstable environment. Through King Lear the director could make a valuable comment and criticism on society. A director can stage different readings of King Lear though highlighting and foregrounding certain aspects of the play.

The play can be considered from a feminist perspective. Feminists challenge the traditional power of men in a patriarchal institution. In King Lear all daughters' motivation is to wrest power from patriarchal control. Goneril and Regan act together to challenge Lear, their concern is expressed at the end of I,I, "he hath ever but slenderly know himself" suggesting he has had a history of unreasonable demands and decisions. Equally Cordelia speaks her mind and is assertive, when asked in the "love test" to "draw a third more opulent than [her] sisters", she responds truthfully "I love your majesty according to my bond no more nor less". Cordelia thereby shows her unwillingness to submit to her father's caprice.

Act scene ii could be dramatically utilised to illustrate Lear's culpability from the daughters' treatment of him. According to Goneril, Lear's knights are "riotous", and are disrupting the peaceful running of the kingdom "more like a tavern or a brothel / than a graced palace". By Goneril and Regan remaining calm and rational when trying to reduce Lear's "100 retinue", their protestations would appear perfectly reasonable. Lear would enter in a wheelchair, responding with the curse "darkness and devils!", calling her "degenerate bastard". The use of a wheelchair would divert audience attention from Lear's suffering, and to his manipulative determination to have his own way. Furthermore by overacting violently and impetuously while simultaneously blocking his ears unwilling to listen to any protestations and the wheelchair with reckless gleefulness, Lear conveys the stubborn selfishness with which Goneril and Regan are justifiably exasperated.

Order your Medicine river paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! I enjoyed the book Medicine River, by Thomas King as well as the movie, which was based on the book. Although there were profound differences between the two, they were both pleasantly constructed. Having been instructed to read the book first, I was able to experience the full effect of the story and the message that the author intended for his readers. Although the book and the movie clearly relayed the same story, I would've better enjoyed the movie if it had included more incidents from the book, such as the visit from Harlen Bigbear's estranged brother, and the 'bridge jump'. I also wish the producer would have incorporated the many flashbacks that the main protagonist, Will, had from his youth. For example, the letters written by his father to his mother; the stories about his mother and her best friend; and the relationship with his brother James, namely, the childhood pranks that they played on one another. I am, however, aware of the time constraints involved when producing a motion picture, and I realize that the script had to be somewhat altered considering the medium at hand.

I found the book to be easy, exciting reading because the story line was very realistic and easily relatable. This book flowed for me to a point when, at times, it was difficult to put down. Several scenes pleasantly caught me off guard and some were extremely hilarious, namely, the visit to Martha Oldcrow. I found myself really fond of the characters, especially Harlen Bigbear. Harlen came across as a sort of 'trickster', but a likable one. He was gentle, caring, and harmless in his own right. Will, the protagonist, was very likable as well. However, his character only evolved for me as a result of Harlen's unconditional and relentless friendship with him. In short, Will's character would've lacked without the likeness of a Harlen Bigbear. The character naming was also very ingenious. The Oldpersons, Prettywomans, baby South Wing, and others were interesting and clever last names that made the notion of identifying with the characters even more interesting and the reading, fun.

The movie was surprisingly good, as it was well scripted and directed. I particularly enjoyed the scenery as well as the choice of actors. The beginning of the movie was drastically different from that in the book with Will being cast as a war captive in another country. Also different in the movie is the fact that in the beginning scenes Will finds out that his mother passed, and doesn't make it to Medicine River in time for her funeral. With all of the alterations that were made in the script, I found it an interesting and nice addition when Harlen persuaded Will to hire ex-convict Clyde Whiteman as an assistant in his photography studio. The only change which I was not particularly fond of was the addition of Will's boss Ellen. Particularly, her persistence to continue in their affair, despite Will's disinterest. Overall, I really enjoyed the movie. However, I was thrown off guard by the order in which the scenes appeared compared to the order of events in the book.

Order your Choosing a college paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! High school was almost over for me. I had to decide what I wanted to do with the next few years of my life. Some of my friends were going off to college, others to the military, and a few decided to enter the job market right away. My mother and I had a long discussion of my goals for life and we decided that it would be best if I went to college. It was time to look for a school where I could continue my education.

I began my search in the guidance office of my high school. My counselor told me about all the local and distant colleges that I could attend. All the schools sounded great, so I told her I would talk with my mom and then I would decide. Talking to my mom really helped narrow down the choices. After a lot more talking, we decided that if I lived at home the first year and transfer later, I could save a lot of money. Now I was looking for a good junior college to attend.

There were a few choices I had. It was going to be Kent State Geagua, Cuyahoga Community College, and Lakeland Community College. I read page after page of information about all three schools. Although I was still undecided, there were some influences that made me lean towards Lakeland. Most of my friends that were going to a local college were going to Lakeland. I also had some older friends that had taken classes at Lakeland and transferred afterwards. I read through the course descriptions and found out that Lakeland's courses are equivalent to the classes at a lot of the universities I could transfer to in the future. The economic reason to go to Lakeland was the fact that it was so close to where I lived. Only a few miles away, I'd be saving tons of money on gasoline, meaning I would have more spending money. These made a pretty strong case to go to Lakeland so I decided to talk to a guidance counselor. She came up with a great plan and told me to sign up for classes and take the placement test.

The test was somewhat like the S.A.T test. There was an English reading and comprehension section with a Math computation and problem solving section. I did great on the English part, but not that well on the Math part. I decided to take the test again and scored high enough to get into the classes I wanted.

Cheap University Papers on Choosing a college

I decided to take fifteen hours worth of classes because most universities won't accept more than that per semester. I signed up for core classes that served as the prerequisites for more advanced classes.

Taking classes at Lakeland was a great idea. I get to see my friends, it's a lot less expensive than going away for college, and I enjoy all of my classes

I feel the quick beating of my heart because of excitement as I saunter through the spacious amusement park. Standing there staring in awe at the rides, where millions of people are lined up. I hear the swooshing sound of a roller coaster as it whizzes by, and the screaming people makes me even more thrilled. I see kids here and there walking hand in hand with their parents and have this eager smile on their faces; they were all excited and keyed up. Some of the parents are behaving like kids all over again, sometimes looking more thrilled and eager than the kids. Looking at them, especially the little ones smiling makes me glad; I don't really know the reason why. I guess it's because they are eye-catching and adorable. The site of clowns and cartoon characters, like Mickey and Minnie, makes kids gasp in amazement, and it makes me feel ecstatic seeing them react the way they did. Deep inside of me, I feel the urge to follow each child in every line and wish that I could watch them take pleasure in every ride they take. I wonder how each would react to the excitement and thrill that each ride can offer. Having to see those kids enjoy themselves, and scream of excitement stirs me.

The amusement park is a great world of fun, laughter, and excitement. It is a fantasyland where the sun is always shinning. Happy faces, lively places, not a soul of grim and sadness. Even the buildings and structures are laughing. It is like an ant colony, where you see long lines in every direction. People move like ants orderly forming lines in every direction towards every source of crumbs or sweets. For a while I feel like I am in a completely different world. A world where sorrow or grief do not exists. A world of bright faces, long lines, and excitement. It is a dream where you would not want to be aroused from.

As I look around me, I start to wonder if there is any other place in the world that is so much entertaining as this. Everybody seems to be transformed as soon as they step through the entrance gate. It is as if none of the problems of this world ever exists. People look so jovial; I would hate to think what it is like for them after they leave. Standing here I think to myself, it is places like these that allow people a way of escape from reality, a means for everyone to forget all their problems, relax, and enjoy themselves as if there is no tomorrow.

The sentence structure is written in a certain way to make it seem like if David is doing everything with a very fast pace.

Pelzer uses a variety of metaphors and similes to explain his family and their actions. "She watched him as if she were a cat" this give the reader an idea of how Mrs. Pelzer was, she was a person who never trusted his sun David. Always looked for a reason to punish David. "His devious smile, and snake like eyes"; that showed how David's little brother Russell watched David's every move to see if he's doing his chores, if not he would go tell his mother on David and enjoyed watching David getting abused.

The whole novel has a connection between the reader and writer. He inspires everybody to never give up and always try to do the best, whatever the consequences. The mother verbally abuses David all the time in the novel. And intense abuse is happening thru out the whole novel.

The tone in the novel is a cry for help and desperation. He is always trying to beat his mother at her own games; that means always have a way which will make mother stop beating on him as fast as possible.

The authors theme is to always have courage and never give up no matter the matter is, if somebody has dreams, then try to reach those dreams. David Pelzer's dream was the "courage to survive."

The significance of the title is very important. David's mother started calling him an "it" because she didn't considered him a person not even as her son.

" That day I vowed to my self that I would never, ever again give that bitch the satisfaction of hearing me beg her to stop beating me." "In the darkness of the garage I closed my eyes dreaming I was a king dressed in the finest clothes, eating the best food mankind had to offer". " In my dream, I flew through the air in vivid colors. I wore a cape of red…. I was Superman". These quotes explain that David had dreams to live and to be freed. He wanted to enjoy life at its fullest and enjoyed things that he had never had.

this is one of the best, but saddest books that I have ever read. There is so much reality in this book. It brought me to a realize things that I have never known before. It is extremely sad that something like this really did happen. I would diffidently recommend this book to anyone.

Pelzer relies on language that was developed from a childs viewpoint he tells us in the authors notes, resulting in a straightforward This happened, then this happened, and this is how I felt approach.

Order your John b. watson paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! John B. Watson was destined to become a Baptist preacher until his mother died and he felt relieved of his promise to her of attending the seminary. Instead, he went to the newly-formed University of Chicago. There, he studied under Angell and was influenced by Loebs theory of tropisms. Soon after graduation he moved to the Johns Hopkins University, and soon thereafter became chair because of Baldwins sexual indiscretions. All along, Watson was thinking about behaviorism. In 11, he finally published Psychology as the behaviorist views it. That manifesto revolutionized psychology and, when combined with Pavlovs classical conditioning (see above), became a new paradigm. Watson, like Baldwin before him, paid for his sexual indiscretions by the loss of his job. Interestingly, even in his love letters to Rosalie Rayner he used John B. Watson (1878-158) was an American Psychologist who established the psychological school of behaviorism. He is famous for boasting, facetiously, that he could take any 0 human infants, and by applying behavioural techniques, could create whatever kind of person (beggar, butcherman, thief) he desired. Naturallly, he admitted that this claim was far beyond his means--noting, merely, that earlier psychologists had made such claims for decades.

With his behaviorism, Watson put the emphasis on external behaviour of people and their reactions on given situations, rather than the internal, mental state of those people. In his opinion, the analysis of behaviours and reactions was the only objective method to get insight in the human actions.

Watson was asked to leave the faculty position he held at Johns Hopkins University because he was having an affair with a student, and subsequently began working for J. Walter Thompson, an advertising agency.

Watson has become immortalized in introductory psychology textbooks for his attempts to condition fear of a white rat into Little Albert, a month old boy. As the story of Little Albert has made the rounds, inaccuracies and inconsistencies have crept in, some of them even due to Watson himself; see Harris for an analysis.

behaviorist language, ...every fiber of my being resonates... However, he landed on his feet working for J. Walter Thompson. He kept his hand in psychology somewhat, writing popular articles and even debating McDougall.

Comments

Watson founded behaviorism and agitated for its use in psychological theorizing. His own theorizing in behaviorism was primitive and limited because of his premature exit from academe. He did do much, however, in his new role to popularize behaviorism and to help remake psychology.

Youth stress how music is only for listening purposes. Teenagers seek music as an outlet from problems in life, yet parents believe that rap and rock music is to blame for teenagers problems.

I believe that rap, hip-hop, and rock music is a negative influence on today's youth, but only to a certain extent. I feel it all depends on the mind of that young boy or girl. I feel as though if a parent raises a child right and discusses with the child what is appropriate behavior and what is not then music will have little affect on that child. If a parent is a role model for that child then they don't have to worry about the child imitating what he or she sees or listens to through music. However, if the child is not taught, I feel as though they are going to look for that in music, and there is where I see the problem If a child is not raised to know what is right and wrong, he or she might listen to some lyrics saying it is cool and to sell drugs, and then they go out and do it. On the other hand, if that child taught to know that drugs are bad for you, listening to those lyrics telling you that they are good, will not have an affect on them because it's already been imbedded in their minds that their bad. The same thing goes for the way superstars dress. If a child is taught to respect their body and dress appropriately then it doesn't matter what a star is wearing, that child is going to dress according to the way he or she were taught. I strongly feel as though rap, hip-hop and rock have little influence of teens, because parents are the biggest influence in their lives and their going to go by what they've been taught. Being a teenager myself, I find that when I listen to music, I'm not interested in so much of trying to be like the superstars singing the song or trying to act out the lyrics that I hear. I'm mostly interested in listening to the music and enjoying it. I find that listening to music is relaxing.

There is a big dilemma on rap, hip-hop, and rock music and superstars. Adults believe that the negativity that is incorporated into the lyrics and music of artists today is constantly being a negative influence on youth and young adults in today's society. However, youth still argue that this music does no such thing. The debate over the influence of music has made rap, hip-hop, and rock a very controversial subject. While many argue it's a negative influence, others still believe it has no influence at all or that

Devices used in the home controlled by microchips, are called embedded machines, because their chip only has to perform required tasks, not like a computer. Thus clocks, vacuum cleaners, washing machines, video recorders, television and hi-fi sets can be programmed, for example, to start at a particular time, or to stop. This is something that could not be done before. In the case of television and hi-fis, they can also be remote-controlled. Devices controlled by microchips are better, because they are faster and more efficient. They make the home easier to run and give it the feeling of luxury. Although they can make us lazier, in that they do most of the work for us, they are luxuries, which are taking the place of their older counterparts.

a. The telecommunications network's spreading has given most benefits to people keeping in touch with their friends. People can now communicate with their friends not only by writing letters, but also by telephone, fax, e-mail and chat (such as ICQ). They can do all this in the comfort of their own home without worrying when the letter will arrive if at all. They can feel as if they are in the same room, chatting like old times.

b. Emergency services benefit in that they can see where the caller is calling from. If the call is a hoax, the caller can be traced and prosecuted. If the call is real then help will be on its way during the call itself. They will help to reduce destruction and crime. If the alarm will be raised by alarms, then help will also arrive much faster.

c. Companies will benefit as important documents can be sent via faxes and e-mail, instead of by mail. This makes business move at a faster rate. Important conferences can take place via web cams on the internet (web conferences) which reduces the financial cost on getting people to fly over (such as flights and accommodation), and also makes it faster, as people are ready at the desk, and do not have to come to the buildingtime efficiency.

Gatsbys greatnessis a matter that demands our attention. Inescapably, it is caught up in the narration of his story and

that narration is entirley through the voice of Nick Carraway. It is, after all, Nick who makes Jay Gatsby into the

Great Gatsby. Why is Nick so drawn to teh man who is his neighbour? What drives a solid Mid-westerner, with apparantly

old fashioned values, to write a lyrical account of a man tragically obsessed with a youthful love affair? It may be because

of the American Dream that draws Nick towrads Gatsby. F. Scott Fitzgerald believes teher to be two variant definitions of the

American Dream. The first is an idealised version which preserves the sense of wonder, and of limitless possibility at the

heart of what American means. This America is an embodiment of human potential, free from any limits set by past experience.

It is this aspect of Gatsby that Nick Carraway admires. The second version of the American Dream is a materialistic version,

in which the process of creating ones self is directly linked with getting rich. It is the corrupt means by which Gatsby has

achieved wealth and his vulgarity by the way he presents it that provokes Nicks scorn.

Gatsby has recreated himself, shedding the past and abandoning his parents. Gatsbys intention was to create an ideal self,

held together by hope and wonder. However this ideal is taintedby the criminal means he employed to attain his wealth.

Gatsbys greatness, for Nick Carraway, resides in his capacity for hope and strength of his desire. Daisy is the immediate

object for that desire. Gatsby, like a knight in Arthurian romance, has taken Daisy as his grail, the sacred object of his

quest. A hero sets out in search of some valued object, and although he encounters many adventures along the way, he remains

single minded in his persuit. This is in direct contrast to the other characters in the play, who tend to drift around and

their life has no purpose or sense of direction like Gatsbys does.

Gatsbys life ends in tragedy, as he is murdered in a case of mistaken identity. Nick believes the world to be full of

bored individuals, lacking a sense of purpose. Gatsby however, is an exception. His life is full of purpose, desire and hope.

This is waht makes Jay Gatsby great in the eyes of Nick, which makes him apper great to us as we as the reader see through

Nicks eyes.
