One of man's greatest fears is to be alone, isolated, separated from the rest of the world. Isolation brings frequent thoughts of loneliness to a person's mind and disables his ability to communicate with others. The fear of maybe never seeing other human beings again or possibly even dying constantly runs through the isolated person's head as he tries to find some contact with the outside world. Panic is his greatest enemy as he battles to keep his sanity. "The Birds" the short story, was written by Daphne du Maurier; "The Birds" the movie, was directed by Alfred Hitchcock. In both the film and the short story, isolation is shown in the far-off seaside towns where the stories take place, the feelings the characters experience when cut off from the outside world, and the ominous symbols of death which frequently appear throughout the stories.

The town in the film is separated by a two-hour drive from San Francisco. By the time the townspeople start to panic, the phone lines are dead, and all communication with the rest of the world is lost. Likewise, the small community in the short story is also separated by distance and the inability to contact other humans. Although both towns are located by the sea, the film's setting is in California and the short story's setting is in rural England. In comparison, the similarities in the settings are much more recognizable than the differences. Both settings are located in similar, small towns on the coast, each one takes place on a farm, and each one is the first home to be attacked.

In the film, the person who seems to fear isolation the most is Mitch's mother. She never wants to be left alone and is always worrying about what will happen next. For example, she asks Melanie to check on her daughter Cathy at the school building to see if the birds have attacked the children. Similarly, in the short story, Nat's wife exhibits this behavior and wants to go wherever Nat goes, even if her life could be threatened. She begs Nat relentlessly to take her and the children with him when he goes to investigate the Trigg's house to see if they are alright. However in the story, Nat's wife does not behave as erratically as Mitch's mother. In contrast to the film, the characters in the short story are more secluded; they cannot go anywhere of great distance because the Trigg's car is not dependable.

In the short story and the film, symbols of courage and death are apparent each time the birds appear. In the film, the color red seems to symbolize courage whenever the birds are about to attack. In contrast, the short story tells of the formation of the birds and of the changes in nature which could not possibly happen; which seems to symbolize an evil force. In the same way, the symbolisms are in some way related to death and the destruction of mankind. However one of the symbols directs more attention to nature than to a certain color.

In conclusion, the setting, the characters and the symbolism tie together to create a sense of fear and isolation. The setting helps to separate the characters from the rest of the population and to instill a greater fear in them by making them feel apart from everyone else. The symbolism supports this theory by targeting the little house in the short story and never letting up on attacks. The characters feel as if they are the only ones who are being tormented by these evil creatures and also as if they are the only ones left in their whole community. Although "The Birds" is considered a horror story, it depicts what life would be like to some people if they were cut off from the rest of the world.

People are affected by too many variables. Their opinions can be shifted depending on their family, schools, social class, religion, sex, ethnic background, geography, and media. Many socialists have found that people in America are feeble minded and biased especially when it pertains to their own self-interests like taxes. People in America also seem to have a split personality. In a recent poll Americans were asked what the role of government should be. Americans answered that the federal government should act to meet public needs such as education, medical care, public housing, urban housing, and employment. Yet half of those same Americans believe we should rely more on individualism and not so much on government welfare programs. A major role that Americans can play in politics is by voting, but with only half the able population voting, politicians are beginning to believe that if the people do not care, then why should ask what we want. A poll was taken recently that found that 6% of Americans are truly informed about relevant political matters. In a January 000 poll, 60% of Americans could identify Regis Philbin of Who Wants to be a Millionaire but only 6% knew who the speaker of the house was at the time. Half of those same people knew that the first ten amendments are usually called the Bill of Rights. 4/10 people reportedly could not name the vice president of the United States. The last relevant poll has found that 6% of college students did not that Franklin D. Roosevelt was the President at the time of the second World War.

Disagree

As in the first argument I stated that many variables affecting peoples decisions is a negative effect but it can also be a positive reason that politicians listen to their opinions. Their opinions based on religion, family, school, etc. can help to develop formats for future candidates. The Changing American Voter has found that voters are changing their opinions of candidates and parties in terms of their positions on certain issues, because of this candidates are using polls to focus their attention on what the people want. The peoples lack of information, can be said, to be situational. If their is a political race between candidates with very abstract formats and sharp political differences then the people are actually more informed than if the race is between two people with very similar arguments. The main reason I disagree is that the peoples opinions are the entire base structure of the United States government. Government of the people, by the people, and for the people... Is simple, the people run this democracy so of course their opinion (educated well enough or not) is still the most important feature of this country.

TASK 4 Writing Folio

holocaust Report

Is racism just a small issue that wont cause any harm other than a few bruised egos, or does it have the capacity to kill millions?. This may sound a bit exaggerated but given the right leader, the right followers and the right racist hatred, thats what youve got. The holocaust was the result of a long hatred toward the Jews, it started just from the racist values taught and learnt through generations. There was no real reason just a misunderstanding and the ignorance of not accepting whats different. All this started just from one racist thought and it could happen again, just as easily, and have exactly the same impact.

Racism has happened for years, although we have come along way from when there used to be separate toilets, bars, shops and even hairdressers for whites and colours. It still occurs to this day and still has a greatly negative effect to those who are inferior, and even to those who are superior. It is the discrimination, oppressive, abusive or aggressive behavior towards people because they belong to a different race. It occurs all around the world from county to country, state to state, town to town, school to school and even home to home. The effect is the same everywhere, its always negative and always has a bad outcome. When racism occurs it does not just be-little the person but it makes them feel as though they should be ashamed about who and what they are. When younger generations are faced with this they dont understand. They start to think there is something wrong with them and that all the negative things they hear are true. Some people who deal with racism begin to have a hatred towards the person and therefore hate anyone like them, so they then become racist too even if they werent before.

Help with essay on holocaust

When the Holocaust started no-one knew just how bad it would get, no-one but Hitler, even his soldiers were probably informed with the least information as possible. The Jews never knew what was happening next, when they were about to be gassed they were told they were going into large rooms full of showers. Hitler was a strong leader who knew what it took to get the Jews assassinated, that was not much considering the racism that had been occurring between the Jews and the Germans. The Germans just needed that push and strong disapproval of the Jews. Hitler was officially in power for 11 years before the holocaust started to end, the most destructive killing of the Jews lasted for two () years, Hitler was in power nine () years before this occurred. The racism between the Jews and Germans was the same as what occurs today, the Germans always had very crude views about the Jews and were taught from a young age to believe and follow these views. If it werent for racism this occurrence would never of happened, Hitler would never of succeeded to bring an army to murder the Jews, thats considering if he even would of tried. Millions of Jews would of lived thier lives and lived happily with the Germans. So many innocent children, babies, mothers, daughters ,sons, fathers, grandfathers, grandmothers, nieces, aunts, uncles and brothers would not of been horrifically murdered.

The Holocaust should never of occurred but lets atleast learn something from it. It shows just how far racism can go, even if its a thought in someones head those thoughts lead to actions and those actions can only have a negative affect on the victim and the suppressor. Racism can erupt into a breakout of madness just like the Holocaust and can lead to undeserved deaths. Racist actions are occurring everyday, everywhere and there is a cure, acceptance and loving indifference.

He has many traits that make him an admirable person. He is a passionate man but he is also very determined and honorable. Through out the story we see the changes in his life and attitude towards everyone and thing.

Okonkwo isnt a very outwardly affectionate man but in the novel we learn from the author how much Okonkwo actually does love his family. He is always very hard on his oldest son Nwoye but that is because he wants him to grow up strong and mature. He is constantly criticizing Nwoye and calling him a woman. When Ikemufuna is sent to stay at Okonkwos obi in chapter four, Ikemufuna is very afraid. Within three years he is like one of Okonkwos sons. He has a very strong affect on Nwoye and he teaches him many things like how to make a flutes. Okonkwo loved Ikemufuna like a son and was very proud of how strong and determined he was. After the decision was made for Ikemufunas death in chapter seven Okonkwo was very depressed. Then the only child that Okonkwo had to look forward to being successful was Ezinma. He said that she should have been a boy. She was his favorite child and he showed that by asking her to come sit in his obi with him. When she was taken to the caves by Chielo in chapter eleven Okonkwo follows the priestess knowing that that is very dangerous and forbidden. Though Okonkwo is not very openly affectionate he has his ways of showing that he loves his children.

Cheap Custom Essays on Things fall apart

When the novel starts out Okonkwo is a young, strong man of about eight-teen. He has already set out to make himself better than his father,Unoka. His father is a lazy, titleless man that doesnt have anything in life that shows any wealth. If Unoka ever got any money he would quickly spend it on palm-wine and share it with his neighbors. Okonkwo learned early in life that the only way he was ever going to be anybody of importance then he would have to work for and work for it he did. His father had no yams for Okonkwo to start out with so in chapter three it describes how Okonkwo went and asked a very prosporous man in the village, Nwakibie, for some yams to grow. Nwakibie gave him eight hundred yams to grow. That year the rain season was horrible. First it wouldnt rain and then it wouldnt stop. Okonkwo said that Since I survived that year, I shall survive anything. He worked very hard to accomplish everything that he set his mind to. Every year he would work painstakingly long hours on his farm to make sure he was prosporous and he was. Okonkwo would stop at nothing to make sure that he was always ahead. Many of the villagers noticed his determination in everything he does and they had great respect for him.

For all of Okonkwos efforts and all of the hard work he has done he earns a very honorable reputation. When he was a young wrestler he threw the cat, Amalinze. For that he became well through out the nine villages and beyond. He is one of the younger men of the village that holds two titles and has fought in two of the intertribal wars. He is one of the members of the egwugwu and that is a very important council in the village. Many people respect Okonkwo and listen to him. He has worked hard for everything that he has and people know that he is reliable and they follow him in the decisions that he makes.

In Chinua Achebes novel Things Fall Apart, the main character, Okonkwo, shows many traits of being an admirable person. Though he does make mistakes which later come to his exile from Umuofia he is still a passionate, determined, and honorable person.

Communities offer children an opportunity to become involved in recreational activities and to develop relationships with others. For children with autism, community involvement at all ages is necessary to help facilitate social interaction and improve communication skill deficits.

Social skill difficulties for students with autism include the impairment of nonverbal behaviors including eye contact, facial expression and gestures. Students with autism often lack spontaneous enjoyment and sharing of interests with other people making it impossible to make age-appropriate relationships with peers. Communication difficulties of students with autism vary depending on the intellectual and social development of the child. Some children with autism may be nonverbal, whereas others may have extensive vocabularies and are able to talk about select topics in great detail. Despite the variation in communication, children with autism are unable to engage in interactive conversations on a variety of topics that are of interest to their peers (Holmes, 18).

Remediating these deficits requires intensive instruction. Often this instruction will need to take place in a one-to-one teaching environment. However, it is my belief that some part of a student's week should include typical peer interactions with an appropriate level of support. This may be take place in an inclusive classroom or may take place in the community. Involvement in the community offers a rich variety of experiences for students with autism. Community involvement may include trips to the library, swimming lessons, participating in sports, scouting clubs, music and art programs. Each opportunity to enter the community is a chance for a student with autism to learn functional skills by observing appropriate behaviors and typical peer interactions. Some of the skills learned while being engaged in community program/events may include how to navigate the community environment, interaction with peers, identifying and locating needed items, making transactions, adapting to new social situations, and coping with changing environmental stimuli ("Community Integration", n.d.).

Write my Essay on Autism and community for me

Not only do children with autism benefit for community participation. Benefits exist for community members, typical children, and educators who interact with the students. Acceptance of differences, diversity of friendships, and awareness of disabilities are among many of the benefits (Raschke & Bronson, 1). To this end, families of children with autism need to fully investigate as many options as possible for social interactions early on in their child's life. The first step is to identify the interests of their child. Parents may find it helpful to request this information from their child's teacher. From there, they should begin exploring the community for various programs that match their child's interests and begin to attend their meetings. Attending a meeting prior to enrolling a child allows family members to educate program directors and staff about their child's disability because they may not be familiar with the supports needed for involving students with disabilities.

We Were Soldiers Once...And Young Chapter 6 "The Battle Begins"

• November 14th 10pm. Bravo Company CO Cpt. John Herren conducts a briefing with his platoon leaders Lt. Al Devney (1st), Lt. Henry Herrick (nd), Lt. Dennis Deal (rd), and SFC Ed Montgomery (Weapons). Herren gives them the Op. Order. 1st and nd platoons will move out abreast of each other while rd will follow in reserve behind 1st. Weapons plt. will support the movement with one 81 mm mortar and forty shells. The first SNAFU occurs when SP4 Bungugum, a grenadier, is told to redistribute his thirty-six rounds of ammo because he is scheduled to go on R & R. When this didn't materialize, he is only able to recollect eighteen rounds.Cheap Custom Essays on Chapter 6 synopsis: We were Soldiers Once...and Young

• 10pm. Platoons move out "smartly." Herren intends to follow behind 1st platoon. SNAFU # occurs when Herren pauses to establish better radio contact with battalion. This causes his rifle platoons to pass over his location whereupon he is cut off for "an hour or so."

• 145pm. The initial contact with the enemy begins to grow into a "moderate firefight." Casualties are expected to mount. Cpt. Robert Carrara, battalion surgeon, is ordered into LZ X-Ray and is also directed to bring with him a lot of medical supplies.

• 100pm. 1st platoon comes under attack on both flanks by approximately thirty to forty NVA regulars firing automatic weapons.

• 115pm. Lt. Devney reports 60 and 8mm mortar as well as RPG-s firing on his position. Cpt. Herren and Lt. Riddle, artillery forward observer, call for air and artillery fire support. nd platoon makes contact with 1st. Cpt. Herren orders rd platoon to the left to help 1st.

• A third SNAFU occurs when Lt. Herricks nd platoon runs past Denvey's right in pursuit of a few fleeing NVA. Instead of consolidating the flank with 1st, Herrick ends up separated (by more than 00 yds) from the rest of B company.

• Herrick reports enemy on each flank and is ordered back to link up with 1st platoon. He also reports taking casualties and is afraid of being cut off. Again his orders are to reestablish contact with 1st platoon.

• Cpt. Herren estimates Bravo Company is engaging two NVA companies when, in fact, he is dealing with a full enemy battalion.

• 1pm. The first elements of Alpha and Charlie Companies are ordered to tie into Bravo's left. The Battalion CP is established on a large termite hill.

• 18pm. A second wave of A and C Company choppers drop with more troops and pick up enemy ground fire as they do. An estimate of approximately two hundred fifty men of the battalion are now reported to be "on the ground." Casualties continue to mount.

• The battalion CO makes a historical allusion to a previous commander of the 7th Calvary, George Armstrong Custer. Unlike Custer who didn't have the luxury of fire support and/or air strike capabilities at the "Little Big Horn," He calls for air strikes.

• ARA (I assume ARVN??) Helicopters fire .75 inch rockets as well as USAF fighter bombers drop 00-500 lb. bombs and napalm canisters on the NVA. Small arms fire continues at close quarters.

• Demolition team is ordered to destroy trees just south of the CP in an effort to enlarge the LZ so that two helicopters could land simultaneously. Specialist Henry, of Columbus, Georgia, is confirmed to be a casualty (KIA).

Linda Bowles, author of Big Brother's Two-Minute Hate, speaks out against the government's scheme-like plan to control and exploit the tobacco companies. Bowles alludes to 184, by George Orwell, as a comparison of the government's method of mind-control. Both the method found in 184, and the method used by the government in Big Brother's Two-Minute Hate, try to manifest a problem, then attempt to intervene and help, ultimately ending as heroes in the eyes of the citizens. Bowles shows her biased side of the argument by making the government sound like it was trying to brainwash the people, and exploit the innocent tobacco companies. Bowles did a poor job of representing both sides of the argument, leaving inadequate information on which the reader could base its decision.

I feel that this was a poorly written, unsupported, and biased essay that leaves me wondering what the main argument was. I still can not conclude whether the argument was about the corrupt government's scheme of mind control, or determining a solution to the current tobacco crisis. I assume that the argument is about the current tobacco crisis, but it seems as if the information leads me to believe that it is about the corrupt government.

Bowles states that What we see is a scheme by the government autocrats to take over a private industry, plunder its wealth, raise taxes-and look like heroes in the process (10). This statement does indeed imply the fact that the government is corrupt, but there

are no actual facts or evidence behind it, thus leading me to believe that this essay is relatively unsupported. Bowles shows no information supporting methods of assisting the current tobacco crisis, which is believed by me to be the topic of argument, nor does she show any other information supporting any points of argument. The information that Bowles did include is very hard to comprehend due to the way in which the essay is written. I found the essay rather is to read, but quite difficult to understand.

The essay seemed rather unorganized to myself. The paragraphs did not lead up to one another, which interrupted the flow, leading to its difficulty in understanding. Paragraphs eleven through fourteen seem like they do not have a point. I can not tell whether the author is being sarcastic or not. I believe that unless the paragraphs are re-phrased, they should not be included in the essay, because they hinder reading and comprehension.

I believe Bowles to be rather biased in this essay. Bowles speaks badly about the government; therefore I believe that she sides with the tobacco companies. Bowles never speaks positive of the government, which leads me to believe that the author does not take into account both sides during the argument. The only time that Bowles speaks negatively about the tobacco, she does it in a way that sounds sarcastic to me; therefore I can not come to a conclusion about whether or not the criticism is genuine.

I conclude that this was a poorly written, unsupported, and biased essay that leaves me wondering what the main argument was. I believe that the writer does not really offer a lot of reasons or evidence to back her argument. I have tried to analyze the tone and language of the author, but I have failed to interpret any of them. I believe my

failure is due to the quality of the author's work. I am not able to pick a side of this argument because I feel that I am misinformed on the topic. Analyzing this essay was very difficult for me. I can read it over and over, but the results remain the same.

There was a saxophone player and a guitar player sitting in front of the museum. They were playing some jazz music. The song sounds pretty cool. The building looks very modern. When I entered, I realized the building is huge. It has two stories. The place looks cheery and the lighting was bright. The main kinds of artwork displayed in the museum are paintings, some sculptures and little photography.

There are some examples of artwork that I found attractive. One of them is ?Food? by Richard Shaw. This is a ceramic sculpture. His witty ceramic sculpture is composed of hamburgers, hot dogs, pumpkins, sandwiches and foods crafted in porcelain, a find grained high-fired clay. That was the first piece I saw when I entered the museum. When I looked at it, my first thought is ?Wow! I?m hungry!?. The piece captures the realistic likeness of actual objects. It looked so real that I just want to grab one of the hamburgers and eat it.

Another piece of artwork that drew my attention is ?Brillo Boxes? by Andy Warhol. He produced Brill Boxes. That?s a bright commentary on American consumerism and embraced the conformity, serial quality, and repetitive patterning of mass production. At first, I thought it?s pretty cool, but when I looked at it for a long time. I realized it?s just a bunch of boxes piled together. I seriously don?t think that?s ?art?, but people have different perspectives. Maybe it is ?art? to some people.

The most amazing piece I saw is ?Mickey and Me? The artist is Llyn Foulkes. The piece is a combination of oil paint, watercolor and fabric. It?s a portrait of the artist himself, and there is a Mickey Mouse inside his brain. The clothes the guy wear on the painting is made of real fabric, and the rest of the picture is oil painting and watercolor.

This piece of artwork looks bright and cheerful. In the background, there is a tree, bluish sky, a river, green mountains, a fence, and a cabin. The artist used light colors like yellow, light green, white, light brown and baby blue. I noticed the artist used brown a lot. The tree, the little cabin, the fence, and the clothes the guy is wearing and his hair are all brown. Also, the way the artists painted it makes it looks like it?s three-dimensional. It feels rough and it has textures on it. The piece is not symmetrical but it has harmony. The person matches the background. And it shows movement too, it looks like the Mickey Mouse is talking to the person in his brain.

I think the artist was trying to show that Mickey Mouse is an important part of his life. I can tell by the way how the artists painted this picture. Mickey Mouse is the main subject of this piece. Perhaps the artist wants to tell us Mickey Mouse is just like a part of his brain. Mickey Mouse lives in his brain and gives him advice every time the artist needs one. He couldn?t live without Mickey Mouse. The artist must be a Mickey Mouse fan. ?Mickey and Me? is my favorite piece of artwork in the museum. It?s very special and shows how the artist is talented and creative.

I thought art museums are boring, but after visiting the San Jose Museum of Art, I?m surprised to find that the art museum is quite interesting. Actually this is the first time I?ve ever been to an art museum. It?s amazing how people came up with all these wonderful and original artworks. This is a new and unforgettable experience for me. I?ve never seen such beautiful paintings and sculptures before. Some of the artworks are very unique too. I recommend everyone to go visit San Jose Museum of Art. This museum is really cool and it?s free too. It?s worth it to take some time and go there to take a look at those creative artworks.

In a perfect world, one would be able to buy a car and never have to worry about changing the motor oil. Unfortunately, we dont live in a perfect world, and we are recommended to change the oil every three thousand miles. The motor oil of a car is very important to its performance and lifespan. It is a very simple task, and yet many people fail to do it. There are two different ways to go about changing your cars oil. You can either take it to be done for you at a hefty cost, or you can do it yourself, so you can save money and make sure it is done correctly. Changing your cars oil is a very easy thing to do, and will extend the life of your engine when done correctly.

First, you start by buying the oil and oil filter that your car requires. You can get all this information in your owners manual. If you dont have an owners manual, just ask the person working at the auto parts store, and hell be able to look up all the information pertaining to your car on his computer. Before even looking under the hood, make sure that the engines temperature isnt high. You want the engine to be nice and cold so that you dont burn yourself. Make sure that you pick a good place to change your oil. An ideal spot would be a shaded are with a level ground. You dont want to do it over an extravagantly tiled driveway. It can be a very messy job. To be on the safe side, lay out some old newspapers under the car so if the oil does spill, the paper will be able to absorb most of it.

Cheap University Papers on Changing the oil of a car

Once you have all the supplies and have found a good spot, you are ready to begin your oil change. You start by laying the newspaper out and getting an oil pan so you have a place for the oil to land while you are draining the old oil. Place the oil pan under the drainage bolt and oil filter. Using a wrench loosen the bolt; dont worry if it falls in the pan. The oil filter shouldnt be too tight; you should be able to loosen it with your hand. If it is not possible to loosen the filter by hand, you are going to have to use a wrench. Once both pieces are removed, allow the old oil to fall into the pan. When there is no more oil coming out, get the bolt and put it in its place. Dont forget to put the bolt back, or the oil that is put into the engine will come out by that hole. Then get the new filter, lubricate it by dipping your fingers in the old oil and running them along the rubber rings on the top of the oil filter. Then get the filter and put it where it belongs by hand tightening it. It is not necessary to tighten the filter with a clamp.

After you have taken out the old oil and replaced the filter, you are practically done. All there is left to be done is to put the new oil in the engine. By finding the oil cap on the engine and using a funnel, refill there engine with the new oil making sure you put the right amount. You can check if you put the right amount by using the dip stick for the engine oil. Finally make sure that you dispose of the old oil properly. This is done by putting the old oil in plastic containers and taking them to a service garage or gas station that disposes of old oil.

Your car is one of the bigger investments you will make in your life. Why not protect you investment by doing some preventive maintenance when it calls for it. You should change your oil every three thousand miles or every three months, which ever comes first. By doing this you are elongating the life of your engine. You are also keeping the performance of your car at its peak level. Make sure that every time you change your cars oil you annotate it. The reason for this is so when the time comes to sell your car you will be able to show the buyer that you took care of the engine. This will make it easier for you to sell your car and get the money you are asking for it.

There is a popular saying, "anyone can laugh at a good joke." If one was to actually ask around, he'/she would find that this is quite true. This is part of the magic of humor. Humor, as defined by The American Heritage Dictionary, is "the quality that makes something laughable." Laughter can be defined as "the co-ordinated contraction of fifteen facial muscles (Koestler ). However that definition tells how one laughs. The American Heritage Dictionary explains why we laugh by describing laughter as "the expression of delight or happiness." So therefore, it seems pretty safe to conclude that humor is used to make someone happy. But, the phenomenon of humor is not that simple.

There are many different forms of humor used by most everyone on a daily basis. Also, it would be foolish to image that each person uses the device of humor for the same purpose or in the same manner. If this were true, everyone would find the same jokes as laughable, the same movies as comical and so forth. All types of people use humor in all walks of life, and that is the true magic of humor. The trick is knowing what type of humor is being used given situation, and for what reason. In this paper I plan to present and explain various types of humor (satire, witticism, etc), giving examples when necessary, by which I will also explain the different reasons and ways a person uses humor. Through this I intend to show that it is undeniable fact that humor plays in important role in the world today, and in each individual's daily life.

As mentioned before there are various types of humor. The first that will be discussed is that of "puns." Puns are one of the most basic forms of humor. A pun is commonly defined as a "play on words." What this means is that there are two ideas connected with a word, and both ideas are used in the same expression (Swabey 5). The expression "our spacemen are heading for the lunar bin," is an example of a pun (Koestler 65). The word "lunar" is being "played on." Lunar has the obvious connection with the term "spacemen", as lunar is used to describe something associated with the moon. However, lunar also sounds quite similar to the term "loony", meaning crazy. The expression "loony bin" is a comical way of describing an asylum for the mentally ill, or crudely, "crazy people." Thus the double meaning is established, and the result comical. Comparatively, puns are a simplistic type of humor, and are therefore commonly used by children (Koestler 65).

Another type of humor often associated with puns is that of wit. As defined by The American Heritage Dictionary, with is "the ability to perceive and humorously express the relationship between seemingly incongruous [incompatible] things." While the idea of wit is similar to that of puns, they both require the linkage of two different ideas; wit is by considered a much more intelligent type of humor. Wit will often make use of puns, but for a seemingly higher, more certain purpose. Swabey, author of Comic Laughter describes wit as "coldly intellectual, intentional, creative…" (6). He goes on to explain how "the real home of wit is the witty exchange of conversation" (Swabey 7). Wit could therefore be described as a social form of humor. Wit is often described as a sport where a witty expression is thrown out like a ball, and the other players must react with their own witty expressions to keep tossing the "ball" back and forth (Swabey 75). The game of wit proves how "humor has always been a favorite pastime of intelligent people" (Reichmann 181).

The next form of humor that will be discussed is that of impersonation. Impersonation, like wit, is a form of humor that requires an audience. Here, the impersonator is playing the role of two different people at the same time. If the result is degrading the audience will laugh (Koestler 68). The field of impersonation, with the aid of Walt Disney, has lately given way to the idea of animals impersonating the traits of people.

The physical object in John Keats's "Ode on a Grecian Urn" written in 181 is the Greek vase or urn. The voice of the speaker in this ode is extenuated as he unifies himself to the urn to indicate the idea of eternity. The tone of the ode starts out to be light and flowery with imageries of the supernatural. However, when looking into the deeper meaning, the tone is actually quite morbid. During this time, Keats's health was failing. The idea of death is reflected in this work. He discusses the urn's immortality and the images on the urn frozen in a state of perfection. Knowing that he can never have this immortality, Keats seems to be longing for this power.

This ode has two separate levels. There is a level of superficial happiness and joy presented by the human figures carved into the side of the urn who do not have to confront the ideas of aging and death. However, it is in this happiness and joy that acts as the façade for the deeper level of death and morbidity. This parallels Keats's own situation with the death of his brother in 1818 and his love for Fanny Brawne. The personal emotions of Keats fuse with the urn through its imagines. He illustrates that nature unlike art is not timeless, and can never be. He compares the urn to an "unravish'd bride of stillness" (Keats, 1) which potentially symbolize his inability to consummate his love. The ode's deeper meaning is death. The urn is an artificial piece of art that is timeless, and the only idea it needs to know is of beauty. It is a replication of perfection, and Keats hopes this message will be passed to future generations.

It is in the second stanza that the images of eternity and sorrow are displayed through the odes on the urn. Keats's ode follows a regular stanza pattern and rhyme scheme. This creates a pattern and continues the argument from one stanza to the next. Each of the five stanzas in "Ode on a Grecian Urn" is ten lines long. They are metered in an iambic pentameter. The first seven lines of each stanza follow the rhyme scheme of ABABCDE. The last three lines vary. In the second stanza, the last three lines follow CED. It is also in the first and last stanza that the last three lines follow DCE which bring a sense of conclusion in the ode.

In the second stanza, Keats observes the piper playing to his love beneath the trees. He images the music being played in this scenery because music that is heard is never as ideal and perfect. In the beginning of the second stanza, it says, "Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/Are sweeter" (Keats 11-1). As all actions are frozen in time, the image of the piper about to kiss the maiden also indicates the positive side of art. The anticipating kiss is better than the reality. Therefore, art can be perfect and unchangeable. "Bold Lovers, never, never canst thou kiss/ … yet do not grieve;/She cannot fade" (Keats, 18-0). Even though art seems positive, negativity is used to reveal the art's timelessness. For example, "Fair youth, beneath the trees, thou canst not leave/…nor ever can those trees be bare" (Keats, 16-17).

Help with essay on John Keats's "Ode on a Grecian Urn" – Critical Analysis

The second stanza reflects the difference between the artificial and the natural. Art is of beauty and it represents eternity, the natural world changes and dies and repeats the cycle over and over again. By the repetition of negative words, Keats reveals the deeper and morbid level of the poem and that is death which is the opposite of eternity. Keats's message in the second stanza is that art lives outside the sense of time. As the lovers will never kiss, his lover, Fanny and he will also never consummate their love either. The ode illustrates that art is not natural, but artificial.

Process essay

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Yucky Orange Blond

One winter, frosty morning , I woke up with a sensation for some kind of change. As I slipped into my warm, cozy, bunny soft, slippers; a new look I thought "yeah" that was it! Something new for the new year, just didn't know what. I wanted something to break like ice the dulness of my daily routine; that had been the same for years. Like the girls at school, like the girls in the magazines, different hair every month. I needed a transformation of some kind. In my desperate search for a new look, I decided to dye my hair, never imagine it could go bad, like the milk in the fridge, a yucky orange color . At that moment it seemed like the greatest idea I had ever had. Just goes to show, that some great ideas can turn out not so great.

I decided to go out and buy some magazines, I found blonds of all shades, and shapes all over the pages. I had found "blond in a bottle"no just kidding, what I had really found was a Shakira photo; it might be true that she turned all blond not that long ago, but, in this picture she had this awesome hair style, it was of lengthy length, bouncy, spiral, dizzy, curls, with the top half blond the bottom half black and black roots. I said to my self "I have long naturally curly hair" I just need the colors. I went to the salon that very day. when I got there I was so excited, it felt like a waterfall of emotions running through me. Finally a lady called me up "Erika Gaitan," it was my turn to get my hair done!

I showed her the picture and told her that's what I wanted, she glanced at it and said "okay" and quicky went to mix the tube of black in to a bowl and the bleach in another .She carefully mixed them with two, long, spoon like utensil. She needed two, so not to use the same spoon for the both color. she mixed them real well, like an eggbeater nice and smooth. She said "im going to do the blond first" she gently divided my hair apart into two halves . She placed the bottom half into a bun with a claw like hair pin. she was getting ready to apply the bleach.

She put on some plastic, crystal, clear gloves on. She soon brush on the bleach and worked into a lather, it was nice and cold and smooth like butter. It felt relaxing at first, but after some time it stung my dry scalp. She let it stand for about fifteen to twenty minutes. Then it was time for me to go under the dryer. Then rinse the bleach until the water ran clear. She placed that half of my hair up in a pretty, loopy bun. She was ready to do the bottom half. She then let the bottom hair bun loose. She began the dying process all over again, but the only difference was that the dye was black, it had no bleach to it, and therefore had no stinging. She rinsed and towel dried that part of my hair. She conditioned it and was finished.

As I looked at my self in the mirror, I was in amazed at the new image I saw in it. Everything went well. I payed her, gave her a good tip, and went on my dandy way home.

I woke up the next morning only to wake up to a yucky orange color on the top half of my hair. I wanted to cry like a baby! My hair was a mess, it was dry, a yucky orange color and to top it all off it was puffier than ever. I felt sick "how could this have happened to me" I said in a soft shaky voice, "This doesn't happen to the girls at school, or in the magazines, may be this is what I deserve for trying to be different from what I was."

One day had passed I couldn't take it anymore, I asked Mommy and Daddy for money and rushed to a hair correction salon to get may hair fixed. My hair finally, looked how I wanted it to look in the first place. The nightmare, not to mention the money it put me through, was enough for me to think twice about what I think is good for my appearance and if it's really worth it. Ever since that day I found out that changing my appearance is not really the fun I might had expected it to be. It made me ask this question to my self every time I want to change something with my appearance"is it what I really want? or is it what everyone else wants?"

Marty Dufrene. Ths name might not mean anything to the average person, but, this name, this wonderful person, is the greatest thing that ever happened to me. My dad has touched many people's lives, including my own, since his young years as a boy scout, to running out of the tunnel in Death Valley, to becoming a quadriplegic.

It started when he was young; he was very independent and motivated. He never wanted to fail. If he didn't get something the first time he would continue until he would succeed. He always said, "Do your best. If you fail, it's not the end of the world. Just try again.

When my dad was a young boy his dream was to be in Sports Illustrated, but one thing was holding him back. His doctors told him he would never be able to play sports. He was born ten weeks premature, and the doctors said his bones were too fragile for intense pressure. Despite this news, my dad went on to play football throughout his high school career. He won many awards and was offered a scholarship to play at L.S,U. This is when the late Coach Charles McClendon came into my family's lives. Today, the way my dad looks at life is because of this great man.

My father stood at six foot four inches nearing three hundred pounds. He played center in high school and L.S.U. football. He was a big man, muscular and handsome. He had a dirty blond buzz cut with a slight receding hair line. His face was stern with his blue eyes, wide nose, and thick mustache to cover his fat upper lip.

Write my Essay on his own hands for me

After his college years were over or family moved to Dallas so my dad could attend chiropractic school. Our life was finally coming together, until that one fateful day in June of 186. My father and some of his classmates had a little party to welcome the new freshmen. Everyone was having a great time, until two of my dad's friends decided to try to tackle this big six foot four inch guy into the pool. My dad flew into the pool and hit his head on the bottom. He couldn't move. His friends rushed him to the hospital andm y mother and I met them there. After many long hours of waiting, the doctor finally came out and gave us the devastating news. His spinal cord was severed and he shattered vertebras C5 and C6. He would be paralyzed for the rest of his life. No more running, playing sports, or holding his little irl. His entire life fell apart within a few seconds. His outlook on life changed dramatically. He was no longer optimistic, and he didnt think his life was worth living anymore. At the ripe age of twenty-six, my dad was paralyzed. I was only fourteen months old at the time, but, strangely, I remember some thing from this day.

After a few months in the hospial, my father was finally able to go home to Louisiana for a weekend. As he was lying in a hospital bed in my grandmother's living room, the phone rang. It was Coach Mac. He told him to keep his winning attitude. After that phone call my dad started to look at life like he used to. He went from wanting to give his life up, to wanting to make something of his life again. Even though he has no use of his hands, he went back to school and became a teacher. After a few years of teaching, he was approached by the Sheriff of Lafourche Parish to run one of the police stations. My dad quit teaching to move on to something better. At one time he thought he wouldn't be able to do anything again, and now he was running an entire section of the Sheriff's Office.

I was growing up, and my dad didn't always seem like the nicest guy towards me. He was very intimidating. When I would do something wrong he would sit be down and have a "talk" with me. Most of the time the "talk" would turn into an all out brawl. Even though he was restricted to a wheelchair, he still scared me when he was mad. Just sitting there with him looking at me with his piercing blue eyes that could cut through steel would scare me. One time I forgot to do the dishes. He and my mother came home from work and he was already in a bad mood. He started screaming for me to get downstairs. I came down the stairs, and immediately I knew I was in trouble. I said, "Hey, Daddy."

"Sit down!" he uttered in a strong, grouchy voice. I sat down already almost weeping like a little puppy.

He asked,"Didn't you forget to do something today?"still being stern.

I muttered

Looking Over the Color Line

While delving into the childhood of Doctor Gregory Howard Williams, one will find more than the stereotypical monologue of someone living life through the ramifications of a prejudiced world. They will see how Doctor Williams reiterates the implications of anti-segregation in northern Indiana. The young readers of his book, Life on the Color Line, can literally feel the effects of the mid-twentieth centurys raciest beliefs. Also, the readers of older generations can recall what life was like in past years and perhaps have a better understanding of the hardships of Dr. Williams and his brothers lives. Their lives, in Muncie, Indiana, were very difficult; however, they were different from one another, due to different points of view.

"I'm getting rich pumping shit"(p.1). Although Buster, Greg's father, was laughing beside his septic tank truck, his quote became an interesting anecdote for describing what he would try to do for the rest of his life. That moment, however, was the first time Greg knew his father to be a dishonest man. "One afternoon he divulged that he only emptied half of their tanks - and thus came back twice as often" (p.1). Buster got paid for every trip, so this was one of his ideas to get rich quick. Though it was not written, it was implied that Greg thought his father was cheating everyone he worked for; however, it was not an issue at the time because Greg had everything a young white boy could want, and his father was known throughout the land as "the man with the Midas touch" (p.1).

Alternately, Mike believed that his father's scheme to make twice as much money as he actually deserved was not wrong. In fact, he thought it to be brilliant. Subsequently, this belief

foreshadows how Mike's life will run parallel with his father's deceitful ways. Although septic life was short lived, Mike and Buster continued, though not literally, "pumping shit" throughout their lives.

Continuing through the lives of the Williams boys, we find they had many of the same opportunities; however, they had different outlooks on almost every topic. One such topic, which was reinforced again and again, was the prayer above the fireplace in the hospital, where their father was recovering from alcoholism. "Lord grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference" (p.16). Dr. Williams recalled the prayer throughout his life and realized he could not change how people had treated him in the past. Furthermore, people would always see him as an unintelligent black kid from Muncie, unless he achieved his dreams and knocked down the racial barriers of society. Greg's point of view on this topic should motivate anyone to achieve whatever they desire. However, Mike's outlook on this prayer was different. He accepted that he was a lesser man because of his race; incidentally, he lacked the courage to face the same aforementioned barriers. Mike's point of view started him into a life akin to his fathers. He cheated, deceived, and robbed people of what they earned. At a young age, both Greg and Mike learned from their father that it was justified to do so. The difference between the two boys was Greg had the wisdom to see past his father's cunning attempts, while Mike was just as happy with his father's life of "pumping shit".

The points of view of the Williams boys were at odds. Although having difficult lives, and difficult decisions to make, they had the same decisions to choose from, and relatively the same lives to live. One can see, in the point of view that Mike took while operating the septic business with his family, that he wanted to take the easy way out and not work as hard as he was

supposed to; he was somewhat destined to be like his father. Greg's outlook of the serenity

prayer gave him strength, while Mike's gave him weakness. While making different decisions on how to view life's plan, Mike and Greg were destined to live hard lives; however, as with anything, life maybe improved upon. Mike chose to see things from where he was. Greg chose to make his life better, by looking at the world from where he wanted to be.

In order keep its people's faith, it is crucial for a government to ensure

that justice is sustained. This will ensure that people feel security and

righteousness in their society. A major element of this justice is often deemed

too harsh the death penalty, the extreme punishment. However, many feel that

Do my essay on Alfred Hitchcock CHEAP !

the death penalty is the appropriate sentence for the most dangerous of

criminals.

A criminal who has been a complete menace to society deserves to be punished

according to the extremity of his crime. A rapist, murderer, or one who has

committed treason, may have been such an encumbrance on the rest of society that

it would unfair to the victims of their crimes to keep them alive. Oftentimes,

the criminal does not deserve to live if the crime they committed is so

horrible. A prime example is the case of Timothy McVeigh, a man who had bombed a

government building in Oklahoma City, killing hundreds and injuring countless

more not only physically but mentally as well. He received the death

penalty, and when family members of the victims of the crime were interviewed,

many agreed that just knowing the fact that the felon is not alive anymore was

helping them cope with the horrendous misconduct that had been committed to

them. Some criminals are so cold-hearted that it would be a dishonor to the rest

of society to let them live. Also, if the culprit feels that they have some kind

of right to take the life of another person, why should the government let a

person with this kind of mentality exist?

Scores of people would concur that the most destructive criminals are not worthy

of living off of hardworking taxpayers' money. It costs an insane amount

of money to keep building more prisons to satisfy the forever-increasing number

of convicts, as well as hiring more people to keep the prisons functioning

sufficiently (i.e. prison guards.) This will create a big burden on society

because the money we are spending to build more prisons to try to keep up with

the crime rate could've been much better spent by improving other aspects

of our society.

Others may argue that the alternative punishment for the death penalty is life

in prison. A sentence of life in prison versus a death sentence is also much

more expensive for the society as a whole, for an offender must be accommodated

in terms of food, shelter and supervision. Also, life sentences are too often

cut short because prisons become too overcrowded or inmates become too expensive

to keep in jail. Letting such dangerous people roam our streets again,

regardless of how much time they have spent in prison, would be an injustice to

everyone else living in the community. Also, criminals, instead of learning from

their mistakes in committing their crimes, often wait for their next chance to

again take advantage of the innocent. If this occurs, it would be an unfortunate

calamity due to neglecting to enforce the strictest punishment, the death

penalty. The death penalty would guarantee that the criminal's offense

would never again be repeated.

It is not to say that a society should give up on reformation and counseling in

order to improve the characteristics of a criminal; but sometimes the crime may

be so severe that it would be an injustice not to let the criminal meet the

consequence of their wrong doings. To try to teach a mass murderer or rapist how

to live without repeating their offenses is unrealistic and therefore a waste of

time, effort, and money on the government's part.

A criminal sentenced to the death penalty may also serve as a symbol to others

in society that may be considering attempting the same offense. A potential

criminal who is thinking about doing some kind of crime might stop and think of

the consequence the death penaltyand then change the route of

their plans to steer clear of the punishment.

To let extreme offenders of the law walk away with anything short of the death

sentence would be unfair to others in society. Without a suitable punishment for

crimes, justice will never truly be served to those that have suffered damages

or losses. Certain crimes should be punished with the highest degree of

discipline available to achieve justice, and this is clearly the death sentence.

This will ensure that the most dangerous criminals will never again commit their

crime.

Order your Macbeth says 'I have no spur/ To prick the sides of my intent, but only/ Vaulting Ambition…'To what extent do you agree with his words? paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! I partly agree with this statement. I feel that ambition played a role in the situation but do not feel that it was strong enough on its own to actually compel him do commit the murder. Macbeth is said to be 'too full o'the milk of human kindness' this shows us he is a honourable worthy gentlemen with the capability of turning evil. And he is tempted to do the evil by other forces namely his wife and the premonitions of the weird sisters.

Macbeths ambition is a large factor in the murder of Duncan though. Just after meeting with the witches he says that 'If chance will have me king, why, chance may crown me, / without my stir.' But we know that he does not leave it to fate. His ambition is so strong he takes destiny into his own hands and because of his driving ambition does unspeakable, evil acts to become king. We can also see how after hearing Malcolm will be 'the Prince of Cumberland' he says it 'is a step / On which I must fall down, or else o'erleap' this shows us how already he is saying he must take matters into his own hands because his ambition is telling him he must do whatever it takes to become king

The witches actually play off this ambition. At the beginning of the play they have already singled out the fact they want to 'meet with Macbeth' because they realise that he has the greatest potential for evil. When Macbeth first meets them the witches say 'Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor!' 'that shalt be king thereafter!' The prophecies lit a fire inside Macbeth. They aroused his curiosity into wanting to be King of Scotland. And then once having been told he was truly was the Thane of Cawdor it built him up even more. Without the prophecies I do not think that Macbeth would have wanted more. Or maybe he would have wanted more but he probably wouldn't have acted on his thoughts. The prophecies gave him the push he needed.

Lady Macbeth also gives Macbeth the support and emotional back up he needs to go through with the murder. He says that he 'has no spur / To prick the sides of my intent' but the irony of that statement is strong. Earlier Duncan related Lady Macbeth to being Macbeth's 'spur.' This gives us the feeling that Lady Macbeth plays a major role in Macbeths life and has a lot of say. In act 1 scene 7 Macbeth actually says 'we will proceed no further in his business' this shows that he had realised that they were wrong and did not want to murder Duncan anymore. But Lady Macbeth has already decided that they will Murder Duncan and uses emotional blackmail telling him to 'account thy love' and calling him a 'coward' to convince him that killing Duncan is the right thing to do. So without her influence I think Macbeth would have been much more reluctant to continue with 'th'assassination.'

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Macbeth says 'I have no spur/ To prick the sides of my intent, but only/ Vaulting Ambition…'To what extent do you agree with his words?

From this it is clear that he had more than his 'Vaulting Ambition and that his ambition was not the only contributing factor that drove Macbeth to commit the murder. The witches' prophecy sparked the hope that Macbeth could actually become the King. And his wife provided the support he greatly required to overcome his fears and actually do the deed. And without her I do not think he would have gone through with the regicide.
