Furthermore, people would always see him as an unintelligent black kid from Muncie, unless he achieved his dreams and knocked down the racial barriers of society. Greg's point of view on this topic should motivate anyone to achieve whatever they desire. However, Mike's outlook on this prayer was different. He accepted that he was a lesser man because of his race; incidentally, he lacked the courage to face the same aforementioned barriers. Mike's point of view started him into a life akin to his fathers. He cheated, deceived, and robbed people of what they earned. At a young age, both Greg and Mike learned from their father that it was justified to do so. The difference between the two boys was Greg had the wisdom to see past his father's cunning attempts, while Mike was just as happy with his father's life of "pumping shit".

The points of view of the Williams boys were at odds. Although having difficult lives, and difficult decisions to make, they had the same decisions to choose from, and relatively the same lives to live. One can see, in the point of view that Mike took while operating the septic business with his family, that he wanted to take the easy way out and not work as hard as he was

supposed to; he was somewhat destined to be like his father. Greg's outlook of the serenity

prayer gave him strength, while Mike's gave him weakness. While making different decisions on how to view life's plan, Mike and Greg were destined to live hard lives; however, as with anything, life maybe improved upon. Mike chose to see things from where he was. Greg chose to make his life better, by looking at the world from where he wanted to be.
