Izzy is remembering how she ended up in the hospital. She remembers, first of all, that Marco, a senior, asked her out to the football team's post game party. Izzy said she didn't, saying that she has been too busy and forgot about all about it. She came to visit her the next day, along with Lauren and Lisa, Izzy's other best friends. Their parents had given them permission to miss school to come see her. They brought her gifts and talked, relatively little, however, because no one could think of anything to say. They left saying they had to get back to class. It was then that Izzy realized why they had been so speechless. After removing her bed table, she saw what was they had been staring at, the remnants of her right leg.
