It's no new fact that guys think differently from girls. From an early age we see that girls are more likely to play tea and dress-up versus tackle football. What is it that sets us apart from each other? Well, to start men and women process information using different regions of the brain. We also differ in the way we interpret and distribute this information. Lastly, women are superior in determining the mood of any given person based on body/face expression. Using this and much more, we can safely say that men and women have different cognitions of certain stimuli.

Contrary to popular belief, men and women do not necessarily interpret information in the same area of the brain. When doing an experiment to test this hypothesis, both sexes were given a PET scan and asked to think of nothing while the testing was in progress. Men were prone to think of sex and football, which can be linked to the temporal limbic system that has a history of being linked to aggression and emotions linked to action. Women on the other hand made word strings and such with the cingulated gyrus which can be linked to complex expressions of emotions. By utilizing this information, the scientists at Haier PET-scanned twenty-two males and females while doing math. They concluded that men and women who do math equally well, just with different parts of the brain.

Women, who are said to be superior at judging character, seem to be. Evolutionary speaking, this is just as well. Women need to know when there's a sense of danger so that they may escape. i.e. angry boyfriend. Men don't seem to use the area that women do when they look at a person's face and body language to find out what's wrong.

Though we process information differently, there is sometimes an extreme since of bias that comes along with this. Women are saw as weak and inferior to men, but as mentioned earlier, they have a greater since for telling when trouble is afoot whereas men do not. Men, who are evolutionary said to be the stronger of the sexes, sometimes have trouble telling when a person is happy or sad it they do not express it verbally. Though this is true most of the time, it is hard to say weather or not the cognition of a male actually senses it, but does nothing because of the lack of the nurture gene that all women share.

The Salem witch trials and McCarthy hearings were some of the darkest chapters

in American History. During 14 and in the early 150's Americans struggled with the

major threat, communism. Joseph R. McCarthy, a Republican Junior Senator from

Wisconsin, was charged of taking office of Senator without quitting as circuit judge.

Write my Essay on The McCarthy Trails And Their Influence On The Crucible for me

For revenge, he then accused 05 alleged Communists and Communist Sympathizers.

One notable person that was accused was Arthur Miller, a playwright who wrote many

great books.

During the 150's people feared Communism. Innocent people were accused of

communist actions. Not only were they accused but nothing could have saved them from

investigators interrogating you. If it wasn't for McCarthy's revenge towards the Capitol

Times nobody would never been investigated. Similar to the Salem trials, the McCarthy

hearings used communism to accuse but were false assumptions.

In the early 150's McCarthy was being investigated by the Capitol Times but

was dismissed because he never really was a judge. McCarthy later received an eleven

hundred dollar refund . Capitol Times never published a retraction nor an apology.

Enraged, Mcarthy vowed to get revenge on his tormentors. He then produced a list of

05 people he accused of communist acts. Included in the list were some State

Department Officials, entertainers, and members of the press to college professors and

working class people. One person which stood out was a famous playwright.

Arthur Miller was born on October 15, 115 in New York City. His parents were

Augusta and Insider. Miller was accused of being a communist. Being a victim of

McCarthyism reminded him of the 16 Salem witch trials. As a result Miller wrote a

play in 15. The play he wrote, The Crucible, is about Salem's witch stories which had

much in common with the McCarthy hearings.

The correlation between McCarthy's hearings and The Crucible was that

McCarthy planned a revenge as well as Abigail Williams. Arthur Miller was

held for contempt that closely resemble Giles Corey, but as a result Corey was later

pressed by stones. In 16 Salem was afraid of witches and the devil but in the 150's

Americans feared communism. McCarthy had unlimited power such as Danforth's

power in Salem. A list of people who were to be interrogated and in the play innocent

people were accused of witchery with no evidence.

These events were marked as a part of American History. Now students still read

about Salems witch stories. The Crucible was a play that gave proof that the trials were

false and innocent people were killed. Salems trials as well as the McCarthyism could

have been prevented by believing that communism and witches and the devil was an

excuse for people who someone wanted to kill without actually committing the crime.

This all caused dark ages in history and is still heard of now.

In the short story "Young Goodman Brown," the overall theme is man vs. evil. The story contains religious imagery, such as Goodman's wife being called "Faith". Husband and wife become one in marriage spiritually and physically. Goodman struggles internally with having faith and being a good man, as Hawthorne uses this allegory with their names. Young Goodman Brown questions his beliefs and takes a journey to question his own spirituality and beliefs.

Goodman leaves his wife to make this trip, with his wife representing faith. Hawthorne uses the act of Goodman leaving his wife to show Goodman is questioning his faith in an allegorical sense. The forest allegorically represents the choice to take the journey of evil. The further Goodman travels into the forest, the deeper into his evil consciousness he dwells in. Hawthorne uses the night to show that Goodman was in darkness spiritually and not enlightenment as the day represents. I really liked how Hawthorne uses the fellow traveler to represent the evil side of Goodman. This fellow traveler actually is Satan trying to tempt Goodman Brown to a witch meeting. In the process, Satan undermines the young man's faith in his beliefs and his community, which he possesses.

Hawthorne uses the staff that the fellow traveler is carrying in an allegorical way. He is comparing Moses throwing down his staff before Pharaoh and the rod the fellow traveler carries, as the staff of the devil against Moses and God. The staff also represents the universal struggle man faces between good vs. evil. As Goodman Brown calls out three times for Faith, his wife, to come to his rescue, he sees a pink ribbon from Faith's cap that has fallen down from the sky and catches on a branch of a tree. He ultimately loses hope and faith, in an allegorical sense, that his wife is caught up like the rest of his community in evil.

The climax of the story is when Goodman Brown laughs after the fellow traveler, or Satan. After what Brown sees as Faith's apparent union with Satan, Brown laughs, as the fellow traveler did. Goodman Brown becomes aware of the opposition of good vs. evil and is transformed at this moment. At this time, one could say Goodman Brown is possessed by evil, while accepting that the world is being taken over by sin. Young Goodman Brown has the vulnerability of youth, having given into the temptations of Satan. He has been led step by step to be suspicious and question all he had believed in. Now, Young Goodman Brown cannot fit into his community spiritually, emotionally, or psychologically and he will feel like an outcast.

Ultimately, Hawthorne allegorically uses the fearful dream at the conclusion of the story. As Young Goodman Brown travels deep into his unconscious, he dwells on evil thoughts that become a part of him. Finally, life can be like a fearful dream in its exposure of the truth. A fearful dream can be a mirror of truth about one's life.

Stereotypes of an African American

Order your Stereotypes of an African American paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! Today's society is so harsh on African Americans, they are subject to discrimination, and a wide range of stereotypes. Even though today the people say that African Americans and whites are treated as equals and have the same rights, there is still a large amount of stereotypes towards them. African Americans are looked down upon in many different ways, some being the weaker race, the criminal race, the violent race, and many more. A lot of the time people don't necessarily mean to project these stereotypes on African Americans, it just happens, maybe because of media, or possibly because of the family they were brought up in. Ever since the 160's African Americans have been said to have the same rights as everyone else, which legally they do , but many times a single person, or even a business won't give them the respect and rights they deserve.

There are many different stereotypes that African Americans are associated with. Some big stereotypes that they are linked with today are the way they dress, the music they listen to. African Americans are pictured as wearing big, baggy, loose clothing. Personally I don't especially like that style, but that is my personal opinion and I am not going to judge someone for wearing that clothing. A large population of African Americans are linked to listening to rap. Although I don't especially love to listen to rap, I can appreciate the people who do, and I am not going to classify them into a dangerous African American just because of the music they listen to. Some people listen to rap to get their emotions and anger out on the music instead of taking it out on a person. Some people look at rap and think it is awful, all the swears and violent suggestions, but African Americans aren't the only ones who listen to it. I have lots of friends African American and white, who all listen to rap.

Not so much now, but just a few years ago, African Americans were linked to crimes. If a woman walked by an African American, they might be more hostile then if a white man walked by them. It is wrong that African Americans are put through this stereotyping, when many of the times a white man would be just as likely as a black man to commit a crime. Just because a convenient store was robbed by a masked man, doesn't mean people should assume it was a black man, which might not happen all the time, but it happens enough.

Overall, stereotypes towards African Americans happen too much, and are ridiculous to make. The public needs to accept the differences in people being race, religion, gender, or anything else. There are many other races in America then just white and African Americans, but I feel that the African Americans are stereotypes more then the Asians, or the Europeans. Nobody necessarily knows why they stereotype someone when they see them, it just domes naturally know which is a sad thing. It could be because they grew up in a family that made jokes about a certain group of people, or it could be what they grew up seeing and reading on TV and in books. All we know is that if everyone makes an effort to try and stop stereotyping, then in time there would be a lot less of it.

I agree that slave resistance in early American society was unorganized, poorly executed, and not representative of the overall attitude of slaves during this time. African American slaves were brought over from there home land without even an idea what was to become of there future in North America. The middle passage killed off so many of the Africans and there was no emotion shown by he Europeans, they probably thought they were going to a place were there would b e short to come. The African American slaves were wrong, they were not prepared for the hell, torment, and persecution the whites were going to put them through. Black resistance began in the 17th century when indentured servants weren't as available and the need for labor works was in demand, the Africans started to be shipped to the New World. Arson , poisoning of whites owners, striking out at the whites, and running away were some of the ways the Africans resisted against the grasp of the white colonists.

Striking out against the African's Masters were the first signs of resistance from the slaves. This explosion of such rage was a suicide attempt, most Africans who choose this type of resistance were usually hung the same day. In 1741 Clerk of the Market proposed, "if any Slave should in Time of Market behave him or herself in any insolent abusive Manner, he or she should be sent to the Work-house, and there suffer corporal Punishment (55)." Rules like the one stated in the last sentence did not stop their resistances toward the white masters. The most logical and lethal method of all the resistances was poison. Poisoning was hard to prove who did it or who made it. Africans who were caught administering the poison, or making were subject to death. There was also a reward for Africans who turned in there fellow friends and workers, and many did turn friends in turn. They could then start saving money to pay for their freedom in the future.

A highly destructive and difficult to detect method of resistance is arson. The Africans would burn the barns, houses, and rice fields to irritate their masters. By doing this they hurt their profit and their name. The consequences of arson was death, but arson was hard to be convicted of unless you were seen starting the firer. A slaved named Sacharisa was burned at stake for setting her masters house on fire in Charleston in 1754 (5). Arson and poisoning usually only involved less than three people, but there were many uprising against the master's and colonies that involved great numbers of Africans.

Black slaves confronted the question daily whether to accept or deny, submit or resist, remain or flee. Black resistance which began in the 17th century included arson, poisoning, strikeouts, and runaways. It was all unorganized and poorly executed, many deaths became of there failure. African Americans in the 17th century went through torment, but this was just the beginning of along time of torture and hatred from the white colonists.

In Annie Dilliard's An American Childhood Part Two, "Terwilliger Bunts One," Dilliard shows admiration of many of her mother's personal qualities and also ambivalence towards some. The qualities that that she admired were her mother's intelligence, her ability to stun or catch anyone off guard, her endless energy, her confidence and persistence and finally, her tenacity. She not only admired her mother's boldness, but also sometimes felt ambivalent towards it. Also she was ambivalent towards her mother's deceptiveness.

Dilliard most admires her mother's intelligence. This is true because she wrote anecdotes conveying her intelligence most often throughout this story. She loves the way her mother has stories about every subject and keeps her on her toes (p 150). She also admires the way her mother has invented such contraptions to be used in everyday life. Her mother's intelligence if further displayed with her knowledge of P.T. Barnum's dictum.

The ability of Dilliard's mother to catch anyone off guard at any time is also something that Dilliard admires. It seems that she is in awe of her mother's power to do so, maybe even a bit envious. She writes that her mother would change the situation in a single second, without notice, if she began to become bored (p151). Also reply to a simple question with an answer not even on the same topic, undoubtedly confusing.

"When shopping with mother, we got to the head of the checkout line, the checker, always a young man, asked, 'Save stamps?'

Do my essay on An American Childhood CHEAP !

'No,' Mother replied genially, week after week, 'I build model airplanes.' I believe she originated this line. It took me years to find where the joke lay.

She admires her mother's endless energy, and who wouldn't? A woman with such perseverance, and confidence in her actions, taking a stand for what she believes in. Dilliard suggests that her mother should have a greater role, such as the mayor of New York because she saw how things should be run (p15).

Lastly, Dillard admires her mother's tenacity. With the confidence she has she never gives up on anything. This attitude is shown in various parts of the story such as in the first anecdote about Terwilliger, on when she is discussing the her fascination about household objects and also on that same page with her attitude with minority opinions.

Though Dilliard expresses wide admiration for many of her mother's personal qualities, There was a few she feels ambivalent towards. One of these qualities being her mother's harsh boldness found in the anecdote of their family trip to the Zoo. Another quality she feels ambivalent towards is how deceptive her mother can sometimes be. For example, when a she would answer the phone on a wrong number, she would hand it to one of her daughters and say "It's for you." They had to figure out if they were to take pity on the caller or do their best at being the person they called for.

Dilliard conveys her attitudes in her writing with the syntax she uses and her choice of anecdotes. The ones she chose to write about and the way she tells each story shows each reader her attitude towards her mother and how she feels.

In conclusion, Annie Dilliard admires many of her mother's personal qualities. She also feels ambivalent towards some of them. Throughout the story she conveys her attitudes through each of the anecdotes she uses and the language she writes with.

Order your Compare and Contrasting creation myth charaacters paper at affordable prices with cheap essay writing service! A protagonist in a story is usually the main character. They interact in most parts of the story and are a big part of what you read. There can be other characters in the story that can conflict with the main character but you can tell which one is the more important. In the short creation myth, "The world on the Turtle's Back", and the two coyote stories, "Coyote and the Buffalo" and "Fox, Coyote, and Whale," there are many characters to compare and contrast to see the similarities or differences in their actions.

The most compatible characters from these stories would have to be the Coyote and the Left-handed twin. They are obviously very deceitful and sneaky in their own ways. For example, the Left-handed twin is always in competition with his Right-handed twin brother. Whenever his brother would work hard to make good, he would work even harder to make evil prevail. He always though of things to work against what his brother believed was right. The Coyote is the same way. He is very conniving and doesn't really pay much attention to those around him. He would rather do things his way without thinking of the consequences to come after.

These two characters also are the shadows or "helpers" to other main characters. For instance, the Left-handed twin would make no action until his brother would do something. Similarly, for the Coyote, in the "Fox, Coyote, and Whale" story, he would always support his friend, the Fox. He followed him to the places he went to look for his wife and encouraged him to never stop looking. They were both in a sense, shadows, of other characters.

The twin brothers would be an example of different qualities. They have nothing in common except from being born of the same mother. They disagree on everything and are very aggressive with each other when it comes to who creates the finest things. The Left-handed twin is very stubborn and doesn't stop and listen to anyone he believes is wrong, while on the other hand, the Right-handed twin is respectable and very truthful. He believes in what is right for the Earth and believes that lying is a sin. Although these two characters are very opposite, they can balance out the story in a good way because it would be too boring to just read one side. It's always good to hear both sides of the story.

Help with essay on Compare and Contrasting creation myth charaacters

In conclusion, the protagonist in each story plays a great part in understanding the meaning of the stories and getting the general ideas of the events that take place in the story. It's not always good to focus all your attention on one characters' view because you want to get the all-around opinions of each character even if it's not the main character. The Coyote really related to the Left-handed twin just because of his reputation of their reputation of being bad. The right handed twin related most to the Buffalo because the Buffalo was forgiving and also giving enough to give the Coyote his youngest cow. All these stories have great characters and even greater character point of views.
