The physical object in John Keats's "Ode on a Grecian Urn" written in 181 is the Greek vase or urn. The voice of the speaker in this ode is extenuated as he unifies himself to the urn to indicate the idea of eternity. The tone of the ode starts out to be light and flowery with imageries of the supernatural. However, when looking into the deeper meaning, the tone is actually quite morbid. During this time, Keats's health was failing. The idea of death is reflected in this work. He discusses the urn's immortality and the images on the urn frozen in a state of perfection. Knowing that he can never have this immortality, Keats seems to be longing for this power.

This ode has two separate levels. There is a level of superficial happiness and joy presented by the human figures carved into the side of the urn who do not have to confront the ideas of aging and death. However, it is in this happiness and joy that acts as the façade for the deeper level of death and morbidity. This parallels Keats's own situation with the death of his brother in 1818 and his love for Fanny Brawne. The personal emotions of Keats fuse with the urn through its imagines. He illustrates that nature unlike art is not timeless, and can never be. He compares the urn to an "unravish'd bride of stillness" (Keats, 1) which potentially symbolize his inability to consummate his love. The ode's deeper meaning is death. The urn is an artificial piece of art that is timeless, and the only idea it needs to know is of beauty. It is a replication of perfection, and Keats hopes this message will be passed to future generations.

It is in the second stanza that the images of eternity and sorrow are displayed through the odes on the urn. Keats's ode follows a regular stanza pattern and rhyme scheme. This creates a pattern and continues the argument from one stanza to the next. Each of the five stanzas in "Ode on a Grecian Urn" is ten lines long. They are metered in an iambic pentameter. The first seven lines of each stanza follow the rhyme scheme of ABABCDE. The last three lines vary. In the second stanza, the last three lines follow CED. It is also in the first and last stanza that the last three lines follow DCE which bring a sense of conclusion in the ode.

In the second stanza, Keats observes the piper playing to his love beneath the trees. He images the music being played in this scenery because music that is heard is never as ideal and perfect. In the beginning of the second stanza, it says, "Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard/Are sweeter" (Keats 11-1). As all actions are frozen in time, the image of the piper about to kiss the maiden also indicates the positive side of art. The anticipating kiss is better than the reality. Therefore, art can be perfect and unchangeable. "Bold Lovers, never, never canst thou kiss/ … yet do not grieve;/She cannot fade" (Keats, 18-0). Even though art seems positive, negativity is used to reveal the art's timelessness. For example, "Fair youth, beneath the trees, thou canst not leave/…nor ever can those trees be bare" (Keats, 16-17).

The second stanza reflects the difference between the artificial and the natural. Art is of beauty and it represents eternity, the natural world changes and dies and repeats the cycle over and over again. By the repetition of negative words, Keats reveals the deeper and morbid level of the poem and that is death which is the opposite of eternity. Keats's message in the second stanza is that art lives outside the sense of time. As the lovers will never kiss, his lover, Fanny and he will also never consummate their love either. The ode illustrates that art is not natural, but artificial.

Alienation

In all of the pictures and stories and the movie we were exposed to in this unit alienation was the key to making them impact the way that they made you think. Especially in "Do the Right Thing" the alienation was ever present. Alienation shapes the way we live, think, and exist as human beings.

In all of the stories we read, the main character or idea was impacted greatly by the alienation that they faced. The one that stuck with me the most was "Mending Wall" by Robert Frost. When I was reading about how his neighbor used a wall to alienate himself from the people surrounding him I couldn't believe that he would actually like it. Especially when he said, "a good wall makes a good neighbor". I thought about that statement for a long time trying to figure out what he was thinking about. It occurred to me that he just didn't agree with things being blown or tossed into his yard by the people surrounding him, but ten I thought a little bit deeper into the issue. I thought about his mindset and what could posses him to create such a barrier. Then I thought that maybe in the area of the world that he was living in, solitude was part of the upside. Maybe he was living there just to get away from the outside world. He could have been a writer or an artist and not wanted anyone interrupting his thought process. It's not like he was completely anti-social because he seemed cordial enough when he would talk to his neighbor when they would repair their wall every spring. That is the only way I could make sense of the fact that this man was alienating himself from everyone in the outside world and thus changing the way that he exists as a human being.

The pictures were a little bit more in depth. There were so many that we went through that it was hard to get a structured, single idea that they were all painting or taking pictures about. I came to the conclusion that all of the art work we looked at were about some emotional feeling that the artists had. They all seemed to be rather dark and almost manic depressive. They all contained alienation unlike "Mending Wall". I feel that this is more of a way for the artist to express what their minds think about their own existence. Maybe they felt alienated because they were different or had something tragic happen in their lives. The somber moods of these pieces of art were a very vivid, and sometimes creepy, expression of how the artist's minds think.

In the movie "Do the Right Thing" the alienation factor had levels. There were the people that thought they were being alienated by someone and then the people that were alienating other people and also the people that were alienating themselves. Often throughout the movie I noticed that sometimes the people that thought they were being alienated by someone else ended up alienating others themselves. The plot thickened when Bug Out wanted pictures of black people up on the wall of an Italian restaurant which was owned by Italian Americans who would rather just keep to themselves and not get involved in the racial issues of the time. When it eventually escalates into a full scale riot I realized what the title was really about. When everyone in the neighborhood was standing outside the restaurant everything could have ended by one person doing the right thing. Someone could have stood up and said that it wasn't the owners fault that Radio had died and then it would have all been over. But no one could find it in their soul to stand up and fight the mob mentality. These people's existence as human beings was changed and twisted by the alienation that they felt.

Overall I liked this unit and I learned a lot of things about life and how different people deal with different things. Alienation is one of the worst feelings you can have if it's forced upon you, or maybe it's what you desire and hope for. Either way it makes you feel alone and separated from the outside world. This feeling can change your life, thinking and overall existence as a human being.

Process essay

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Yucky Orange Blond

One winter, frosty morning , I woke up with a sensation for some kind of change. As I slipped into my warm, cozy, bunny soft, slippers; a new look I thought "yeah" that was it! Something new for the new year, just didn't know what. I wanted something to break like ice the dulness of my daily routine; that had been the same for years. Like the girls at school, like the girls in the magazines, different hair every month. I needed a transformation of some kind. In my desperate search for a new look, I decided to dye my hair, never imagine it could go bad, like the milk in the fridge, a yucky orange color . At that moment it seemed like the greatest idea I had ever had. Just goes to show, that some great ideas can turn out not so great.

I decided to go out and buy some magazines, I found blonds of all shades, and shapes all over the pages. I had found "blond in a bottle"no just kidding, what I had really found was a Shakira photo; it might be true that she turned all blond not that long ago, but, in this picture she had this awesome hair style, it was of lengthy length, bouncy, spiral, dizzy, curls, with the top half blond the bottom half black and black roots. I said to my self "I have long naturally curly hair" I just need the colors. I went to the salon that very day. when I got there I was so excited, it felt like a waterfall of emotions running through me. Finally a lady called me up "Erika Gaitan," it was my turn to get my hair done!

I showed her the picture and told her that's what I wanted, she glanced at it and said "okay" and quicky went to mix the tube of black in to a bowl and the bleach in another .She carefully mixed them with two, long, spoon like utensil. She needed two, so not to use the same spoon for the both color. she mixed them real well, like an eggbeater nice and smooth. She said "im going to do the blond first" she gently divided my hair apart into two halves . She placed the bottom half into a bun with a claw like hair pin. she was getting ready to apply the bleach.

She put on some plastic, crystal, clear gloves on. She soon brush on the bleach and worked into a lather, it was nice and cold and smooth like butter. It felt relaxing at first, but after some time it stung my dry scalp. She let it stand for about fifteen to twenty minutes. Then it was time for me to go under the dryer. Then rinse the bleach until the water ran clear. She placed that half of my hair up in a pretty, loopy bun. She was ready to do the bottom half. She then let the bottom hair bun loose. She began the dying process all over again, but the only difference was that the dye was black, it had no bleach to it, and therefore had no stinging. She rinsed and towel dried that part of my hair. She conditioned it and was finished.

As I looked at my self in the mirror, I was in amazed at the new image I saw in it. Everything went well. I payed her, gave her a good tip, and went on my dandy way home.

I woke up the next morning only to wake up to a yucky orange color on the top half of my hair. I wanted to cry like a baby! My hair was a mess, it was dry, a yucky orange color and to top it all off it was puffier than ever. I felt sick "how could this have happened to me" I said in a soft shaky voice, "This doesn't happen to the girls at school, or in the magazines, may be this is what I deserve for trying to be different from what I was."

One day had passed I couldn't take it anymore, I asked Mommy and Daddy for money and rushed to a hair correction salon to get may hair fixed. My hair finally, looked how I wanted it to look in the first place. The nightmare, not to mention the money it put me through, was enough for me to think twice about what I think is good for my appearance and if it's really worth it. Ever since that day I found out that changing my appearance is not really the fun I might had expected it to be. It made me ask this question to my self every time I want to change something with my appearance"is it what I really want? or is it what everyone else wants?"

What is Love?

Webster's dictionary defines love in many different ways, "A feeling of intense desire and attraction toward a person with whom one is disposed to make a pair; the emotion of sex and romance. To have a feeling of intense desire and attraction toward a person (Webster, love)". Everyone at some point in their lives has experienced love, whether they were loved or have loved. Love seems to be the main underlying goal that we all strive for in our lifetimes. It is the one thing that we all, as humans, have in common. There are many different types of love family love, friendship love, conceptual love, and intimate love. Many people have a hard time finding words to express this intense feeling because everyone's experience and meaning of it is different. The thing is, that with love, it is not positive or negative; it seems to have its ups and downs. However, we still go throughout life searching for it, without ever giving up.

Family love is unconditional, meaning it is timeless, and everlasting. Family love, is the feeling when families share old time stories to each other. The great part of this love, is that when my family gets together on holidays, it is special to see the families that come from out of state to be together again as a whole family. It may even be the strict rules that a parent enforces, that a child feels are unfair. The thing about is love is you can be yourself, make mistakes, and you will always be forgiven.

Cheap University Papers on what is love?

The love shared between friends is similar to family love, but there are boundaries not to be crossed. These boundaries are different with each friendship, but are usually somewhere along the lines of, not messing with each other's boyfriends or bad mouthing behind each other's back. Friendship love, is the feeling that you know you have someone there to always talk to. Especially, about things that you could never tell your parents. This type of love lets me share my feelings to my best friend and know that she would never tell a soul. Friendship love, lets you share the experience of your first crush, first real love, or your first everything. This love, even makes you want to take the blame for a childish acts that your best friend committed.

Conceptual love is a love of material things, ideas, or characteristics. This love we feel toward objects, such as jewelry, flowers, and other material things. It also is the feeling of loving characteristic traits, such as kindness, humor, and features. Conceptual love is looking into a mysterious persons eye.

Intimate love is the love that we search for endlessly. We long to have someone care about us more than anyone has. The majority of us want to be married, and have families, which has become the American dream. Intimate love, is knowing that Mr. Right is out there somewhere and that with a bit of luck you will find him. This love is the most intense feeling out there; it is the tingle in a gentle kiss. Intimate love, is very tricky and can at times be mistaken for infatuation. You experience it when it is hard to even think about anything else. However, intimate love can be painful, and difficult to handle, when deaths, break ups and other crimes that have occurred.

This just shows the many types of powerful words that are in relationship to the word love, and how it can affect you. Love is a long road ahead of us, some of us find it and others do not. This poem is one of my favorites, it was written by my brother, I love how he shows his true feeling about love. "To love someone is to cherish them being there. And Never wanting them to leave, But also to give them space. And to understand there needs. Always tell 'um you love them and show them you care. Be sensitive to their feelings with grace. And always be there." (Brent Taylor) I think, in life people die of love or live because of love. Love should often be this way because it makes the world more passionate and extraordinary. Is said that love is ugly, and that is why it looks for beauty. Now you may know why, love is so difficult to define, because it is this and so more.

Marty Dufrene. Ths name might not mean anything to the average person, but, this name, this wonderful person, is the greatest thing that ever happened to me. My dad has touched many people's lives, including my own, since his young years as a boy scout, to running out of the tunnel in Death Valley, to becoming a quadriplegic.

It started when he was young; he was very independent and motivated. He never wanted to fail. If he didn't get something the first time he would continue until he would succeed. He always said, "Do your best. If you fail, it's not the end of the world. Just try again.

When my dad was a young boy his dream was to be in Sports Illustrated, but one thing was holding him back. His doctors told him he would never be able to play sports. He was born ten weeks premature, and the doctors said his bones were too fragile for intense pressure. Despite this news, my dad went on to play football throughout his high school career. He won many awards and was offered a scholarship to play at L.S,U. This is when the late Coach Charles McClendon came into my family's lives. Today, the way my dad looks at life is because of this great man.

My father stood at six foot four inches nearing three hundred pounds. He played center in high school and L.S.U. football. He was a big man, muscular and handsome. He had a dirty blond buzz cut with a slight receding hair line. His face was stern with his blue eyes, wide nose, and thick mustache to cover his fat upper lip.

After his college years were over or family moved to Dallas so my dad could attend chiropractic school. Our life was finally coming together, until that one fateful day in June of 186. My father and some of his classmates had a little party to welcome the new freshmen. Everyone was having a great time, until two of my dad's friends decided to try to tackle this big six foot four inch guy into the pool. My dad flew into the pool and hit his head on the bottom. He couldn't move. His friends rushed him to the hospital andm y mother and I met them there. After many long hours of waiting, the doctor finally came out and gave us the devastating news. His spinal cord was severed and he shattered vertebras C5 and C6. He would be paralyzed for the rest of his life. No more running, playing sports, or holding his little irl. His entire life fell apart within a few seconds. His outlook on life changed dramatically. He was no longer optimistic, and he didnt think his life was worth living anymore. At the ripe age of twenty-six, my dad was paralyzed. I was only fourteen months old at the time, but, strangely, I remember some thing from this day.

After a few months in the hospial, my father was finally able to go home to Louisiana for a weekend. As he was lying in a hospital bed in my grandmother's living room, the phone rang. It was Coach Mac. He told him to keep his winning attitude. After that phone call my dad started to look at life like he used to. He went from wanting to give his life up, to wanting to make something of his life again. Even though he has no use of his hands, he went back to school and became a teacher. After a few years of teaching, he was approached by the Sheriff of Lafourche Parish to run one of the police stations. My dad quit teaching to move on to something better. At one time he thought he wouldn't be able to do anything again, and now he was running an entire section of the Sheriff's Office.

I was growing up, and my dad didn't always seem like the nicest guy towards me. He was very intimidating. When I would do something wrong he would sit be down and have a "talk" with me. Most of the time the "talk" would turn into an all out brawl. Even though he was restricted to a wheelchair, he still scared me when he was mad. Just sitting there with him looking at me with his piercing blue eyes that could cut through steel would scare me. One time I forgot to do the dishes. He and my mother came home from work and he was already in a bad mood. He started screaming for me to get downstairs. I came down the stairs, and immediately I knew I was in trouble. I said, "Hey, Daddy."

"Sit down!" he uttered in a strong, grouchy voice. I sat down already almost weeping like a little puppy.

He asked,"Didn't you forget to do something today?"still being stern.

I muttered
